If i was to sign up for SKY Talk would they actually take over my BT line? Also if they did would i still have to get a MAC Code from BT so that i could switch from BT Broadband to SKY Broadband? Or would i just be able to switch because my phone line would be with SKY and not BT?
You can have Sky talk without having Sky Line rental. I would take Sky line rental too as its cheaper than BT and they have good free services such as caller display and answer phone. Broadband is worth having too, get a free wireless router.
I have everything Sky - TV, Phone, Line rental and BB. Its very easy and they will arrange all the transfers for you, all you need to do is call and get them to do it. Very good having all these things on 1 bill which you can view online.
Mine costs £22 for TV (all 6 mix things, no sports or movies) £10 line rental, phone is free (evening and weekend free calls), and BB is free (I can only get 2mb where I live so I'm on the free 2mb Base package) so all costs me £32 plus calls.
You can have 24x7 free calls for an extra £5 a month, also they do better BB deals for £5 or £10 extra a month, plus Sky BB is the only true unrestricted BB.
I say go for it (BTW I don't work for them, although I should do after all this!)

Thank you for your reply, If i were to have the SKY talk and also have the SKY line rental would this mean that SKY would takeover my phone line from BT or would BT still control the line and everything?
It's just that i really want to get away from BT Broadband and transfer onto SKY Broadband, so i was just wondering if i was to get SKY talk with the line rental whether i would still need to get a MAC Code from BT to transfer over to SKY Broadband? Or could i just switch over straight away?
Yes m8.
I have gone to Sky for tv (min package), 24/7 talk for £5/m and line rental £10/m.
Sky did everything altho I asked Virgin for the MAC number. Very easy, so far very good.
So BT have no contact or contract with you - you only deal with Sky.

I don't really want to ring BT and ask for a MAC Code as i have heard terrible things about them such as they won't give it to you or they give you the wrong code.
I went to email BT the other day to ask for a MAC Code but right at the end just before submitting the form it said about confirming that i wish to close my BT account but all i want is the MAC Code.
That's why i'd rather have SKY talk and SKY Line rental if it meant i didn't need to get a MAC Code from BT.
As far as I know they can't refuse or give you an incorrect MAC code. When you ring, yes they may try to offer you packages to get you to stay.
Just don't mention that you want to cancel with them, as you can request MAC code and if you don't use it in the time period you stay with your current provider.
I'm with sky and have everything with them, very smooth transfer and lost internet access for about 5 mins whilst i connected the new kit up.

I know according to OFCOM's rules that any internet provider has to provide you with a MAC Code within 5 working days, However i have heard many stories about BT and some people have waited weeks or months for their code.
Also i have heard that BT cease people's line's sometimes when they request a MAC Code and i don't want that happening to me.
You can ask sky to see if they will d othe transfer but I am sure that as you have a contract with BT you will need to get the MAC number from them to give to sky (or anyone else). If you do not ask - you will not be changing ISP.
Virgin pi**ed me about something rotten but within 20mins of contacting OFCOM they rang me and canceled my last moths bill as well.
Go for it m8.
Just call Sky, don't worry about BT. Sky will do it all for you.
