My mini me's have got Halifax Save for it accounts, the account book has their names on it but with me as a TEE (whatever that means) I pay in via standing order from my current account, manage it online and neither no about it

They get a little coin sorter type money box too. Dont know if this is the type of thing you are looking for but you can save in the account then give them the passbooks when you are ready.

You could have a look at National Savings Children's Bonds. The interest rate isn't outstanding, but your money is safe there (unless something really unexpected happens) and they are tax free.

Way back in the mid to late 80s when I was about 10 or 11, I took out an account at the Barclay's in Hillsborough, opened it with about 5 quid (which to me was a small fortune back then).

we have a account for our daughter with the nationwide at the time 12 years ago it was a fantasic offer the account is in our daughters name but only me and her dad as access to it till she is 18 so may be worth looking at but things have change alot so maybe a search for the best offer would probably be the best idea.

I can still remember the sort code and account number of my first "Barclays Supersavers" account. I felt all posh with the folder and (totally useless) bank card that couldn't even be used in an ATM! Sad, I know. And why that number sticks in my head, god knows. I have trouble remembering the PIN I've had for 10 years!

I soon defected though when you got more free stuff like a bag and other goodies with a Midland Bank (showing my age) Griffin Savers :D

Don't forget about the CTF as a good way to invest. You can put up to £1200 a year into a CTF and it is tax free.
