View Full Version : Should you have to work on your birthday?
christine 09-06-2005, 14:31 It's my birthday - hurray!
But I'm at work - boo!
Should you have to work on a day when really you should be pampered and not made to lift a finger?
nope you shouldnt have to, i hate sending the kids to school on their birthday too
I have a friend in Sheffield called Christine, and it's her b-day today too! How bizarre!
redrobbo 09-06-2005, 15:09 You could have booked a day's leave off work.

Is it me?!
I always try to ensure that I'm not working but sometimes it's been unavoidable.
nobikejohn 09-06-2005, 17:46 You should of thought ahead and booked the day off, otherwise I don't people should have the day off on their birthday
No, definitely not, that's why I had a bank holiday declared for my birthday.
Only for this year, though. chiz, chiz.
Nope, I don't personally work on mine unless my fun plans are delayed.
Last year mine was on a Thursday and I was celebrating on the Friday so everyone could have a lie in on Saturday. So I went to work on my birthday for the first time ever, otherwise I would have been bored rigid.
This year - not a chance :D
What! Work on birthday! :o well maybe when pigs fly.....NO! screw that, not even then!
dear xtine,
happy birthday lady - i hope it is fun. now get to work!
citygirl 09-06-2005, 20:06 Happy birthday Christine. I actually like going to work on my birthday. I'm in an even better mood than I normally am.
It's the day after I don't like going to work. Usually due to a hangover
LauraLuv 09-06-2005, 20:11 NO way... Every1 shud av a week off 4 birthdays!
It was the busiest week of the year at work this year so I was not allowed my day off for my birthday which I think was totally out of order as they had enough cover for me and I should be allowed to use my holiday days off whenever I like.
Is there a legal ruling, does anyone know, about stopping employees from taking certain days off??
muddycoffee 09-06-2005, 21:15 Christine,
I hope you are having a lovely birthday. But it's up to you. If you have someone to spend your birthday with, it's lovely to go away somewhere I find.
2 years ago I went to London on the Master Cutler and had a marvellous day in the sun.
This year I will be Celebrating my 36th birthday in Barcelona.
But last year and most years I have just done the usual "I can't be bothered" routine, which pleases me too. If you save a day to have a day off then why not have a special day, It depends if you will have to spend it alone or not I suppose?
I work 52 weeks of the year or 365 days of the year which everway you look at it, so if I miss my birthday I miss it the only time I celebrate is when I come home to my girlfriend and our kids any other time I dont bother, depending where I am taking photos I always make sure I get home for 2 hours to be with my kids birthday and my girlfriends birthday. but when you are over the 50 birthday whats the point in celebrating the next big celebration is when I retire and that should be when I am 80 years old I will celebrate my birthday then but not until.
