View Full Version : Supertram is so super? *Ryan* 09-06-2005, 13:12 does anyone think the supertram is no longer so super? Unisol 09-06-2005, 14:46 Why, i thought it was more popular than ever? nick2 09-06-2005, 14:48 It's packed in the rush hour, you can't get on sometimes. *Ryan* 09-06-2005, 14:52 jus that i don usually go on it, staying at my gfs house, i jus seem to be standing 4 ages, plus i thought it woulda gone at light speed like the star ship enterprise, ah well.. Greenback 09-06-2005, 15:02 If it went at light speed they'd have to come up with something more evocative than 'Super'. Maybe 'Reet fast, it wor there then it wor gone!' Tram? redrobbo 09-06-2005, 15:08 Supertram is a runaway success! NicolaE 09-06-2005, 15:16 I like supertram becuase most of the time it actually turns up when its meant to! You should try waiting for the 76, recently it's even failed to turn up in the evenings when the buses are only every 30 mins! At least trams can't go missing v easily and break down less. *Ryan* 09-06-2005, 15:24 good point! but it makes up 4 it by having loadsa people on... nice smooth ride aswell, bus are very unreliable, this is a whole different arguement! ha NicolaE 09-06-2005, 15:27 I think if they extended the network at first people would moan cos of all the disruption, but I'd love it if supertram went near where I live, I'd actually turn up to places on time rather then having to wait 6 years for a bus! Although it annoys me when they drive off just as you reach the doors! But I think bus drivers are worse for this then trams. Internetowl 09-06-2005, 15:45 much more people would use the tram if it went to more places...there was grand plan mentioned about linking in the main hospital in the area in (eg NGH) and running through to Rotherham - but seems to have died a death... not so super these days... Rich 09-06-2005, 15:50 And they were originally going to bring it up Stannington but all the locals, in their infinite wisdom, objected to it :loopy: Would've certainly been better than the annoyingly sh*te service we get from the 81 and 82 buses  sheff_minx 17-06-2005, 17:05 At least it takes you somewhere you may actually wish to go... The Metrolink in Manchester is TERRIBLE!!! For 3 stops from Piccadilly it is packed (city centre) then everybody gets off and its empty for the remainder of its journey to nowhere via places nobody goes to (ie. little back streets that lead to nowhere!) Tram? that is possibly the best idea I have ever heard talk to Stagecoach, seriously! :D youwhatref 17-06-2005, 17:52 Rich is right in that in many areas people just dont want Supertram. I cant see why. It's clean (well cleanish), fast, very reliable and smooth. The only time it doesn't turn up is dwon to an accident or when First bus decide to have a bus breakdown on the tracks! (very convenient dont you think!) People of Rotherham & Dore you keep complaining but it's your loss rich951 17-06-2005, 17:54 Originally posted by sheff_minx At least it takes you somewhere you may actually wish to go... Interesting, my parents live in Bury (at one end of the Metrolink line), so I've used it plenty and the number of people on it *far* outweighs the Supertram - which admittedly wasn't hard a couple of years ago :) It replaced an old commuter train route and always has plenty of people on. Carl_Malibu 17-06-2005, 17:54 it destroyed business for ages in a lot of areas it was built (e.g. hillsboro, infirmary road etc.) Hook 17-06-2005, 17:56 Originally posted by youwhatref Rich is right in that in many areas people just dont want Supertram. Some of my fellow students get the 60 to the interchange and then get a bus from there to meadowhall, which I think they believe is cheaper.. but I'd rather get the tram any day of the week! Maybe I have to pay 85p to the union, and then 250p on the tram, but I get there the same day! It would have been so much more useful if the tram was up in Broomhill this year, although thankfully it's on our doorstep next year, what with living on West St and all... hj dary 20-06-2005, 06:03 I can't understand the mentality of the people on the Bawtry road in Rotherham. Supertram wants to come along there but they keep saying no. But ask any one who live in Whiston, Stag, Broom, Bramley or Wickersley about the roads in the area and they will all to man whinge about Whiston Cross roads or the traffic islands at the Parkway/M1 junction. The amount of traffic at these places on a morning is shocking. If the tram came through here from Maltby to Sheffield on a morning at least half of these cars, with one person in each, could go as it would be quicker to use the tram and the roads would be less busy for those who realy do have no other option than to drive. But no. Some NIMBY's on Bawtry rd dont want the disruption of the buiding work or the overhead and lines outside thier house's so both us and them have to suffer for their small minded attitudes. youwhatref 20-06-2005, 06:40 Originally posted by hj dary But no. They also dont understand that the value of the house is likely to rise on completion. Just let them have the odd 20y/o buses kicking out smoke passing their home every hour. Captain_Scarlet 20-06-2005, 09:44 Perhaps before trying to get SHEFFIELD SUPERTRAM to flippin Rotherham whoever's doing the surveys could get lines to most parts of Sheffield ? As far as I know, my friends and family in Totley Want the tram badly as we're all utterly fed up with the 97 First buses. The tram is badly wanted in totley, not Dore. And that's up to the Cross Sythes, not some lame line that finishes at Spar !! scottf 20-06-2005, 09:57 Originally posted by youwhatref People of Rotherham & Dore you keep complaining but it's your loss No loss at all- it would rip right through the heart of my village looking terrible. Keep it in sheffield and extend it there instead. nick2 20-06-2005, 10:06 Originally posted by Captain_Scarlet As far as I know, my friends and family in Totley Want the tram badly as we're all utterly fed up with the 97 First buses. The 97 is a terrible route, one of the reasons I stopped going to Esporta was the amount of time I spent sat on the 97 bus just getting there, it was quicker to walk, but walking up London Road in the rush hour is not exactly good for your lungs. I know quite a few people in Bramley and they would love to be able to get the tram to Sheffield, you can image how long it takes to get from Bramley to Sheffield by bus, but again the NIMBYS have scuppered the plans, with their "I don't want it so your not having it" argument. |
