: Overview :-
A Victorian style pub right next to the bus station in Sheffield, rather small pub but caked in history.
A little something you didn’t know about the old queens head pub.
On the entrance side of the pub there’s a carving on the wood to the top right, This carving is of a myth / legend called the spring heeled jack.

- : The investigation :-

All of the team gathered down stairs in the dining room area, and had a brief chat wile the most haunted nites medium tuned in, all of a sudden the medium started picking up on a shadow what was to the right of us all watching us it seemed moving back and forward - also Our medium Trish was picking up the same.
So lee Phill john decided to take photos and a E.V.P recording to see if we could get anything out of the ordinary, We had no luck tho, nothing on the pictures or e.v.p.

The glasswork

Wile in the same area most haunted nites suggested that we all do glass work, (this isn’t a oujia board)
We split up into two teams, 4 people on the glass work and few taking photos and recording.
Wile doing the glass work we started asking questions, and the glass started to move in circles, We explaned move clockwise for yes and anticlockwise for no. These are the answers we received by doing glass work.
Answers we caught in the dining room, and lounge -
Are you male = Yes
Are you connected with the pub = yes
Is there anyone who your drawn to here = moved to lee.. And MHN medium.
Was there a major fire in this place = yes
How many spirits are there here? = 3
Do you mind us doing this = Yes
Will you show your self to us = yes
Do you want to hurt us = yes
Were will you show your self to us? The cellar.
When did you die = ?????
How old are you = 56
What is your name = Jack. (spring heeled jack)
Who else is with you = A girl of 19 years of age - and a unknown spirit.
How many times has lee been here? - 4 - this was correct
How many times has Phil been here? - 5 - this was correct.

There was no successful e.v.p recordings or pictures to show here, of what was we noticed at this time.
We remember seeing no Orb,s or no images at all on the nite, on our camera's
These are the photos we found when we further inspected the pictures for results and this is all we had.
take a look.

I worked at the Old Queens Head for a year in the early 1970's well before it was refurbished. The little snug with the fireplace was definately haunted. I only worked the dinnertime shift but many a strange thing happened. One that sticks out in my mind is often a half glass of beer would be moved from table to table. and before all you sceptics answer no there was nobody else around and I was not drunk on the job. It always happeened around 3.pm just when the pub was clsoing and the pub was empty I would empty the ashtrays etc and feel a cold shiver and even a coldness from the fireplace area. Often mentioned it to old Pete Nadin who was landlord at the time but it didnt bother him.

my old mum was a cleaner there in the mid 50's, there was a little room to the right of the front door where glasses left from the night before used to move across the table when you went to collect them, there was also a window upstairs that had a signiture scratched into it at one time but im not certain if it hasnt been moved but there was talk from people using the pub about seeing a woman at the same window dressed in old fashioned clothes, cant say as i saw it,but as a child of around eight or nine i picked up on the locals mentioning such stuff to my mother whilst she was working there

The Rose & Crown at Darnall is definitely haunted. I used to work there and my friend who is a medium came to see me and she told the landlord that a spirit had said not to take the fireplace out as he put it in. He was going to take it out the week after cos his brother wanted it. He said I'm definitely leaving it in now! I seen some strange things in that pub and I'm not talkin' about the customers!:hihi:

Since when has The Old Queens Head been a Victorian style pub? its an Elizabethan building and I dont think spring heeled jack was about then, he was about in the middle 1800s and I dont think he had that much creedance to have a carving done of him and placed on the pub.

I also worked there in the 70s and Pete was my daughters godfather.
There was definately something in the snug.

Hi Lee,

Did you go into the cellar? Did 'Jack' show himself, or try to hurt you?

Cheers,

Ade

Isn't the Queens Head one of the oldest buildings in Sheffield (well part of it anyway?)

E.M.F. Reading: 0.0

How exactly is this reading generated ? What frequency range does it cover and how is the equipment calibrated ?

In that area you have quite high levels of RF as there are cellular base stations in the area and buses/trains transmitting automatically very close by. So if you were seeing not background RF at all then I would worry.

If you go to the Cholera Memorial Park near Claywood Drive, there is a plaque next to the Memorial giving details of Sheffield's connections with this amazing and exciting mythical figure. Some speculate that he might have been an extraterrestrial, or a mad scientist who had developed some kind of strap-on rocket assistance; in my opinion, S.H. Jack actually represents the antics of more than one individual. He is also supposed to be the prototype of legends which inspired the creator of Batman/The Dark Knight...
The 'Fortean Times' Magazine (available every month from WH Smith) had a very good article about the SH Jack phenomenon a few months ago; he also 'haunted' Liverpool as well as Sheffield and London...
NOT to be confused with Jack The Ripper, (who was a real murderer all right), S. H. Jack merely frequently scared the s*** out of several people...

Am I right in thinking their is no ageing to him either, I'm sure I read that he has appeared a good 100 years apart if not more.

I was always under the impression The Trip to Jerusalem was the oldest pub in the UK.

The Old Queens Head was vandalised when it was 'improved'
All the separate little oak-panelled rooms in the original building were knocked into one and a huge modern bay window was installed in the original, most prominent Elizabethan wall.
Original details such as the fine carved wooden corbels now appear in the middle of walls, behind the bar etc and now have no architectural significance whatsoever.
An act of architectural vandalism to a historic building which the city planners allowed. Marginally better than than allowing demolition I suppose

Its not the oldest pub in sheffield, its the oldest building it wasnt a pub until 1851. The oldest pub is the Nailmakers on Backamoor Rd and its had a licence since 1626 that means its been selling beer for 377 years which knocks the Queens Head into a cocked hat.

Ha Ha how can you be a "relatively open minded skeptic" - either you are a skeptic or not !

lee steer
15-02-2009, 00:29
Hmmm to be skeptic.. there has to be some doubht i think....

it doesnt mean someone who doesnt tottaly belive in ghosts... It just means someone whos going to take a deeper look into it, and try to disprove the evidence..

our skeptic says... well to be actually investigating the paranormal, a skeptic.. must be very intrested and have some level of dobht.
