View Full Version : I need help with a finance company
Hi guys
I was wondering if anybody has heard of Wentworth Finance (or indeed used them) and their thoughts on them. I have applied for a loan but have to pay £48.00 for the processing before I get any cash!
Is this normal and does the loan get authorised from the lenders?
I have been blacklisted so at the moment this is an only alternative to a high street branch who would certainly refuse me.
Help?
Regards
Swiller
in my dark & desperate days of redundancy & 15% interest rates i had to go the same way, never used wentworth although i had heard of them. try portfield in rotherham, i used them & the service was excellent with no fees.
Have they sent you the papers through yet?
I would check the small print - I imagine it wil be in there somewhere. If it isn't then you might be able to get it back, otherwise I think they'll stand by it.
Hi guys
Thanks for the advice. yeah i have received the papers but not had time to read them as I'm not at home. Will look at the small print (if any)
Thanks
Swiller
Check that mate,
If they are charging it you, I am fairly certain it will be in there somewhere - along with the "i agree to all the terms and conditions in this contract" just above the bit you sign.
However, if it aint then you are in a lot better position re getting it back.
Post when you've had a spy and I might be able to advise you further.
I do seem to recall a program on televison about similar companies who charge fees and then claim to not be able to find a lender who will offer you a loan. They then make you wait for ever to refund your application fee(and in some cases don't). I think it was on GMTV (Lynn faulds -wood) or Watchdog. The basic advice was never pay anything up front no matter how desperate your situation is.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of any loan companies in Sheffield that help even if you've been blacklisted or have a crap credit rating???

horseface 09-06-2005, 19:38 Swiller,
If you google for "wentworth finance" or for "wentworth direct finance" almost all the results are for "click-throughs", but there is also one link to www.debthelpuk.co.uk - "DEBT HELP UK FORUM " - the site requires you to register, but google's cache will get you in.
So Swiller, have a look at: http://tinyurl.com/9443g - where there is some discussion of wentworth, it may help you, and just maybe if you post on that forum you may get some help with your all to common problem.
From what I could see:

Good luck!

so continuing...
from what I could see:
1 they are not a lender , they are a broker, who will try and find someone to lend to you.
2 http://www.cus4unsecuredloans.co.uk/ is probably the nearest they have to a website of their own.
3 that website only gives a post box address for them, and their consumer credit licence number. The post box address has a post code of "DA13 0BR" . Googling on that post code gives a list of 2 other orgs that are at the same (or nearby addresses). However neither UpmyStreet.com nor the other Post Code search engines I tried (including streetmap.co.uk) came up with a result for that post code.
...and they quote a "Typical APR" of 15.2 percent , which on the face of it is OK, with a zero to two percent brokers fee. ...and lets face it, that is a very good (almost too good a?) deal.

spartacus 09-06-2005, 21:10 Do NOT fall for this scam!!!!
These, and others like them, purport to be lenders but when analysed turn out to be loan arrangers or brokers. That is, they charge a fee to find you a lender who will then charge you as per normal (at usually substantially higher interest rates) for your loan.
In short, at the best they are middle-men charging you a fee for something you could do yourself, and at worst are charging to refer you to loan companies that they own themselves or those who pay them for client referrals.
If you need a loan, use your bank. If you are refused it is usually because there is a risk that you do not have the means to repay the loan. The banks therefore are indirectly protecting you from getting into the money pit.
Yes Loans also do this scam of charging you money upfront for trying to find you a loan.
And I never got the cash back even after months and months of complaining, be warned!
Dont make the same mistake I did.
just for info for lestat.
i do hold the agency now for cheshire finance & we do try to help people in the situation you mention, either for loans or car purchase etc. they do however assess your ability to repay i.e they do need proof. they will not lend at the doorstep (provident style)
pm if interested or pass my details on if you would be so kind.
