View Full Version : Any New Year Knitting Resolutions?
Glitter Star 01-01-2009, 11:28 Happy New Year to all you knitters!
I was wondering if any of you have knitting related New Year Resolutions?
I think mine is going to be to try a new sock pattern every month. I always stick to plain socks or Monkeys, but there are so many more out patterns out there.
Mr&MrsRadish 01-01-2009, 11:41 I'm still tinkering with the 100 items in 365 days idea. I only have myself to blame.......... Oh and to use up most of the yarn i have, and to finish off the four projects off i have on the go, but would that count as one of my 100 projects? And to continue working as a handknitter for other people. I don't know. Well just to continue knitting really, i think thats the best thing. Oh and to get my allotment sorted out.
peakwool 01-01-2009, 11:52 I want to knit something for myself. A cardigan with cables. HAve the wool. HAve the pattern and will shortly have the time!
Lucy-Lastic 01-01-2009, 12:45 I hope everyone has a lovely and happy New Year!
Like Mr&MrsRadish, I really want to finish off the projects I have on the go that have been languishing in bags for some time now - mainly the 2nd Bayerishe sock and the last bit of my Dew scarf though which have been on the go now for probably well over a year, possibly a year and a half or even longer.
carriewarr 01-01-2009, 13:13 As soon as I'm through my current pile of dog coat orders, I'm going to knit a pair of socks! Sock knitting is an obsession I really don't understand - but feel I need to try making a pair myself before criticising too much!
Has anyone got a v. simple pattern recommendation to start me off?
Cheers, Carrie
Carrie, I am no sock expert but I think the free one that comes with the Opal/Trekking etc yarn is a good one to start with. I can let you have a copy.
I need to knit more for the shop. I am hoping to knit lots of baby things, things for Easter through Jan and Feb, things for Halloween through Summer and things for Christmas all year!!! I should also knit things for me in gorgeous yarns. That's a lot of things!!!

Thanks Jill. I'm heading into Sheffield tomorrow so will swing by if you're open. (Out of interest, do you have any Knitpicks Harmony Sets in stock??!!)
Cheers, Carrie
carriewarr 01-01-2009, 17:05 I've added a second NY Resolution to my list.
More dishcloths!
Cheers, Carrie
peakwool 01-01-2009, 18:21 I would also like to finish off the socks that I have started and to learn to pick up stitches for collars better.
knitbird 04-01-2009, 18:37 I want to finish what I start, reduce the stash somewhat, and conquer my fear of colourwork.
To complete a knitted item for myself that I will actually wear! To do more knitting - so that each project doesn't take forever and I actually get something finished :)
Mr&MrsRadish 04-01-2009, 20:24 HI BeckyB. I'm the same, many an item that looks lovely on the pattern, actually looks quite disappointing once off the needles to me too. I'm relieved to know that it's not me being a hyper perfectionist. Lets hope you do it, then you can tell me how to appreciate something i make for myself.
yorkie001 04-01-2009, 22:21 I aim to use up at least some of the yarn I already own before buying some more and to attempt some vintage patterns, especially with the relaunch of 'A Stitch in Time' last December. Must find a way to justify buying it first though!
littleblue 04-01-2009, 23:09 I'm going to finish stuff I've started.
So far this year - I've finished three scarves and sewn in the ends to a blanket.
Some how, I feel this resolution may be short lived.
daisycat 06-01-2009, 12:50 I aim to use up at least some of the yarn I already own before buying some more and to attempt some vintage patterns, especially with the relaunch of 'A Stitch in Time' last December. Must find a way to justify buying it first though!
Yorkie you don't need to justify buying it - it's an amazing bumper book of fabulous vintage knits and worth every penny! I shall bring it along on Thurs to temp you!
yorkie001 06-01-2009, 15:24 Hi Daisycat, I don't need a lot of tempting at the moment, although the 'another Christmas gift for me' explanation is wearing a bit thin!! There's no knitting on Thursday's for the next couple of weeks as the Cocoa girls are having their Christmas holidays. I think they re-open on the 17th so we're back the Thurs after that but not 100% sure. Will check and let you know.
