I have a black, female, possibly Labrador crossbreed or something of similar size, in front of me. I found her today running backwards and forwards between all the traffic outside the train station.

She has a collar but no tag, is very friendly, quite hyper but listens to commands.

As much as I love dogs, I work 9.5 hours a day and can't possibly keep her here for more than a couple of days.

Please get in touch if you know of anyone losing her.

Meanwhile she is running around whining and generally not being very settled which worries me slightly as I have to leave her at 7ish & won't be back until gone midnight.

there's an announcement by Geoff somewhere stating that lost and found pet threads are supposed to go in lost and found, but there's usually a link thread posted in pets to make sure the right people see it and keep an eye out

there's a sticky thread at the top of this group with all the info for who to contact if you find a dog. The first thing you need to do is get it scanned to see if it's chipped - which should be the quickest and easiest way to get it back to its owner. Then you need to let the dog warden know you have it (since the law changed in February). If at all possible, I'd avoid taking the dog to the pound for the next few days. It's going to be arctic for the next week or so, and those kennels aren't heated :(

Thanks. Tried the dog warden but they aren't there until the 2nd. Don't want to take her anywhere where she might be put down and the longer I have her, the more I am getting attached, which is not good really as it's just not practical for me to keep her.

Hoping to find her owners and that she hasn't just been dumped.

Good luck with her love. If all else fails and you are unable to rehome her I am sure there will be kind people on this section who will help exercise/feed her while you are at work. Thank goodness you picked her up - it's freezing out there, poor thing. Radio Sheffield will possibly put out a 'lost' appeal for you - they have been good in the past with this kind of thing. x

Hoping to find her owners and that she hasn't just been dumped. The dog warden 'service' is woefully inadequate

the kennels are manned over the whole holiday period, so if it was really necessary you would be able to take her down there between 8am and 10pm - but that doesn't help them match her up with a lost dog report when the office staff are obliviously enjoying their holidays whilst somebody is frantically searching for their dog!

Can I ask you to make a complaint to the council about the inadequacies of this set up please?

there is no earthly reason why the kennels shouldn't have access to a well maintained database to enable prompt return of lost dogs

Yey, good news!

Spoke to the dog warden today and wasn't very happy because they said that, even though I was willing to look after her until they had tried to locate her owner, unless I was willing to keep her permanantly I had to hand her over to them.

Really didn't want to because of it being so cold and all

But then...hurray..... the owner phoned me!!! Seems a very nice man and he must have been very concerned. So later on the lovely doggy will be re-united with her owner.

Happy Ending :thumbsup::)

yerrrrsss, the law on keeping hold of a found dog is rather fuzzy. If the wardens take in a lost dog they have to keep said dog for 7 days, then can dispose of it by sale or other means as they see fit

if you keep hold of a dog you've found, you have to keep it for a minimum of 28 days, but after that period you still don't have legal title - unless you hand it in to the dog wardens, place a reserve on it, then pay the adoption fee of something in the region of £70

the system is full of irritating grey areas and nonsensical items

I'm so pleased you found the owner though :)
