View Full Version : Why are Labs mouths so interesting?
alirosdan 30-12-2008, 22:18 My friend and I regularly walk our dogs together. I have a Staffy cross and she has a Lab.
I have lost count of the times that complete strangers have stopped to talk and prised Lotties jaws open to look in her mouth. No-one has ever done it to Tilly (not surprisingly I suppose, she can look a bit fierce, although she's a big softie really).
My question is, is what are people looking for when they look into a Labrador's mouth?

How strange!!!
I have no idea what they would be looking for... I certainly wouldn't be stopping to prise open the jaws of a dog I've never met!!
LaceyHiggs 30-12-2008, 23:13 hmm sounds pretty odd to me

A damn good slapping, if they're not careful! I've never come across anybody who's gone around prising open somebody else's dog's mouth, whatever the breed!
I've had people comment on how lovely Molly's teeth are before (really big and very white) but nobody has ever been daft enough to try to prise her mouth open to have an extra-good look at them.
What a bizarre thing to do!

LaceyHiggs 31-12-2008, 08:20 hmm its very odd! your answers give the most logic haha!
alirosdan 31-12-2008, 10:38 In a way, I'm glad that no-one has a clue because I was beginning to think I was missing something. It's got to the point now that we just look at each other and laugh when it happens.:hihi:
Hmmmm, I've got a Labrador and no one has ever tried to look inside his mouth.
Where do you go walking? I shall make a note never to go there with The Chocador.
By the way, have you read The Last Family in England? If you love Labs you'll love this book!

It's happened in Concord park and Wincobank Wood and an old man stopped us outside his house one day to talk about Lottie and he did it too.
No I haven't read or even heard of The Last Family in England. Is it a tear jerker? Marley and Me nearly killed me :(
Grandad.Malky 03-01-2009, 21:44 I hope they have plenty of tissues if they tried it with ours he would slaver all over them, why do they do that.
You can usually guess at age from the teeth. Perhaps they are just old school dog owners who have had labs, you can tell a lot about lifestyle from teeth.
