View Full Version : Im getting married !
he proposed on early hours boxing day morning with the kids crying in background, think he had been waiting so long during day he couldnt wait any longer!
so I am looking at weddings and costs and have decided we are going to have a late service either in the registry office or the venue we choose. also rather than the full meal malarky were going to just have a hot buffet and a drink for everyone for the toasts. I am going to have a live band and have to sacrafice a lot so i can afford it!
I am so excited!:D:D

Savbaby, congratulations! I've only got 7weeks to wait but we're having a late ceremony and a buffet. Just be aware when your planning things, if it's a civil ceremony in Sheffield, 4.30pm is the latest a Registrar will be available - caused us a bit of a headache at first but we've sorted out what we want quite nicely now.

Thanks for the info but i am getting married in scotland :D
We are going to have a humanist wedding and we can have it right up till 6pm.
I feel like i am hitting a brick wall as all the Hotels will only accept you for a wedding on a saturday if you are taking one of the packages! So they want you to take a meal, drinks package and night buffet.
We are looking into having the meal now but thinking of trying to drop the drinks package as it would save about £1000!
why on earth did i say yes:confused::hihi::hihi:
hey - how did I miss this thread?!?
congratulations Sav!!!
we managed to get what we wanted by finding a hotel which was being refurbed, so managed to hammer them down on costs
try the city centre hotels which do most of their business mid week and see what they can do for you
ring them up, ask if they do weddings, and if they say 'no', go for it :D
otherwise, don't mention weddings, just ring up asking about room hire for a private party - and it's not much to do with them what the occasion is ;)
BoroughGal 08-01-2009, 00:44 Ta for bringing this to my attention Strix!
Congratulations Sav, I'm so pleased for you....!

we found a great hotel in the city centre at George Square, its called the millenium. Its very reasonable and the girl who was showing us around had great tips for saving on it all.
The only problem now is she is on holiday till next Wednesday and we need to see if we can change the date as its my cousins birthday that week which i knew about but forgot its her 21st!!!
Fancy a trip to Glasgow Strix about October 2010:hihi::hihi:
actually, we usually have break in Scotland in October ;)
LizG2008 08-01-2009, 15:48 Hi and congrats, it sounds like you have some place but just in case a little tip. If you are going to get married else where dont tell your hotel it is a wedding, just tell them it is a party, you will find they are much more flexible with their packages adn a hell of a lot cheaper. Obvioulsy you dont get your first night etc included but the saving more than makes up for it :) and youa r enot doing anything wrong by mentioning it after the paper work is signed :)

Yeah we may be sorted, we want to get married in the venue and the money we are saving on cars is good. I seem to have found a flexible hotel anyway the girl was great, she has been telling us the options and we can pick and choose from the menus to make a menu in our price. If we change our mid about the venue before we book i think we will be saying its for a party!

Heh heh, yeah, maybe I should have been clearer - thanks for bringing this post to the top of "view new posts" for me....! :)
Classic Rock 12-01-2009, 11:21 I've deleted a post advertising services. Please folks, don't turn this into a thread offering things you can do. Use one of the sticky threads at the top of the group to advertise what you can do. Thanks.
