I'm thinking of getting a digital camcorder. My shortlist is down too
the canon mvx10i
and a jvc model that i'll have to put down tomorrow (it's on my pc at home and i can't remember the model number).
Does anyone have a digital camcorder and how do they find it?
If anyone has the mvx10i, even better.
I was helping someone look for a digital camcorder a while back and we decided the picture quality was almost identical between all the cameras untill you got to the ones that were 3ccd. Which I believe refers to the number of chips used for encoding, the ones with 3 have one for each colour, I may be wrong though! The one they ended up getting was a 3ccd canon one, quite an old model now though. Overall they seemed to offer best value for money in terms of features, optical zoom, quality etc.
With good light you would struggle to tell the difference between the output from that camera and a tv broadcast. The cheaper ones are still much better than anologue models but they still have a home camcorder feal to the output.
you are correct about the 3 ccd technology. there's a panasonic for £429 available which is one of the cheapest 3ccd models available. Got 5 stars from computer shopper, but so did the mvx10i. Only negative point in the review is a lack of widescreen mode.
Was the panasonic similar in terms of other features and price? Unless they have changed a lot in the last few years (which I guess they may well have!) I would probably go for the one with 3 ccd technology, if it met the other requirements. At the time there was a noticable difference between 3 ccd and single ccd models in terms of picture quality. But then if they both got 5 stars, the canon probably does other stuff better, or the quality difference had disappeared now.

Similar but not quite as flash. I think the colour reproduction is supposed to be noticeably better with 3ccd's.
