Hello,

I,m helping a (middle aged) relative out who hasn,t got a pc. Hes got to move out of Park Hill soon and where to live or not to live is the question? From what I understand he gets 40 housing points and rehousing costs.

He likes quiet but can,t stand nosey neighbors. Bites peoples heads off if they interfere with him, bless him. Rark hill is a dump but no one interfers with any one. He lives on the Flower estate before and had those kind of neigbors, pluss he gor burgled 3 times. That makes him nervous about moving again.

Anybody know what Meadowhead is like, particularly the non shelterd flats on Little Norton Drive , Painted Fabrics estate at Meadowhead?

What exactly is choise-letting system? Any tips and advice is welcome.

I,ve just been told by my relative I should have written "Choise-based letting system" just now! Wou. Any one know anything else about how its going to go with Park Hill and the rehousing of the residents? Don,t want to ask him, he,s already wound up.

Whats that black spot on my envelope that no one else has got?

I'm afraid I've no information but thought I'd post a reply just to prove that people are actually reading this thread. All I can say is that Meadowhead is a nice area.

You or your relative should speak with the housing department re: choice based lettings. But basically its a rehousing system that incoporates both those in need and those who want more choice and bands properties.

However it sounds like your relative as the maximum number of points, therefore he has the pick of the bunch depending on the availability of hte property.

He has the choice of a flat/ sheltered scheme. sheltered enables someone to live independently whilst still having a warden/ niegbours on at close hand. Whilst a flat may be more remote.

Langsett area is a good choice, quiet and stable.

again speak with the housing officer and ask to look at where the council as available properties.

Thanks for the info. Yes my relative has got the maximum points and has since spoken to the council and Propertyshop but its a question of something becoming available the area of his choise.

From what I could gather, I think he,s got 18 months to move but if everyone else has moved from the Landing he,s living on the council suggested he choose another area if nothings come up on the Painted Fabrics Estate/ Little Norton area?

He has to find his own place as that Painted Fabrics/Little Norton is all Choise Based Letting. Where is the Langset area, I,ve not heard of that?

The painted fabrics houses adjoin a very nice area with shops close by. Bus services to town(53firstbus) run every 10 mins. I would honestly move there its 200% better than park hill. If he or she wants a more relaxed atmosphere then Meadowhead has it! Only one school near. The houses on painted are exellent!

thanks for the reply. We already went and looked around, looks good, very nice and peacefull, nice atmosphere and at least 200% beter than Park Hill.

Now we just need a house or ground floor flat to become vacant so everybody on the forum keep your fingers crossed and who knows?

I,ve just been reading that a number of estates are being ringfenced for the rehousing of Park Hill tenants? They are Wybourn, Bard Street, Harold Lambert Court, Hyd Park Walk and Terrace? Does anyone know what these estates are like, up to now that is?

I live opposite Park Hill, near Bard Street, it is a good area, pretty quiet and we've not had any trouble. There are a few older people living around here, and its very close to where your friend lives now - so just across the road from the shops etc. Its nice and close to town - in a little pocket of a nice area.

Do you know what the plans are with Park Hill? We were told they were doing a massive refurbishment next year, putting plastic fronts to the building - similar to the high rise flats near Broomhill. Is this true?

I can't see that happening, personally, as it's a listed building... The council can't even do exterior work on it without english heritage getting forms in quintiplicate and god-all knows what else!

Pity...

(maybe that was one of the typically unfeasible ideas mooted in the £40m scheme to make the place upmarket and "desireable")

I recently read the Park Hill flats complex is the largest listed building in the UK. Imagine that on "Who wants to be a Millionaire?": "What is the largest memorial site in the UK? a) Blenheim Palace, b) Wentworth Woodhouse, c) Park Hill Flats or d) Windsor Castle.
Hmm. Sheffield tops again. Thank God we're not from Hull!
