Hi,

Can anyone with a cavie/or who grooms cavies recommend a good shampoo? Ive just bathed Pip for 1st time (groomers normally do it but she is starting to pong). I got vetzyme white shampoo. It seems ok but doesnt actually smell of anything so was a bit disappointed. Pip is a blenheim.

Any recommnedations welcome :)

I take mine to the grooming parlour on a regular basis so don't actually bath them at home. I've got a blenheim and a tri colour. When they were puppies I used Bob Martin and also Pets At Home puppy shampoo and they were both fine.

I bath my shih tzu's in Infa Care. Its used for babies and its so gentle, and mine has never had a problem.

I bath Mojo in the pink vetzyme which is nice and makes her smell lovely until she goes in Grave park for a walk.

she just smells clean which not a bad thing! Ill have a look at the pink one. I quite enjoyed doin it so might not need to take her to groomers as much.

they dont need to go to groomers-it just personal pref. i take her for bath, claws clipped, anal glands and they trim her when she looks a bit tatty. She isnt a show dog so not bothered about not touchin her fur. Im havin her clipped all over in summer.

Mine go about once or maybe twice a year for a bath and a trim, nails clipping etc. We have to clip ours inbetween visits as mine both have quite long hair. My friend has two of the small cavaliers you see today - hers don't particularly need clipping as their fur doesn't seem to grow that much, but mine are the old fashioned size - more or less same size as a cocker spaniel, so there is a lot more hair on them to grow! :hihi:

pip smells really doggy after about 8 weeks so take her every 8-12 weeks. She hasnt right long fur but looks tatty. She not as big as cocker but has really long legs. Vet said she an older style cavie.

I have 4 cavs and a japanese chin and I use Groomers shampoo conditioner and coat conditioning spray. I buy direct with having a gang but you can buy small bottles from Pets at Home.
The firm was recommened by a breeder and shower of cavs. Here is the linkwww.groomers-online.com.

The evening primrose is my favourite.

ours had her first proper grooming session a few weeks ago, she's still young and fairly short haired yet so doesn't need it too often. We do bath her at home, but would rather a professional clip/trim her to be safe :hihi: we use puppy groomers shampoo from P@H, the pink stuff, it leaves her nice and clean and smelling fresh, makes her coat soft and silky too so i'd recommend it.

Anything mild (such as johnsons baby shampoo as mentioned above) should be fine

I use herbal essences on Brude as it's mild, or if he's rolled in something nasty he gets a moisturising carex to kill the germs causing the smell :gag:

I'm not a fan of dog shampoos - they either smell foul or don't get the dog clean

Strix I wouldnt recommend any human shampoo for dogs as they have chemicals in them which are too strong for dogs skin. Human Baby shampoo is fine, as it is suitable for new born babies, who's skin is as sensitive as a dogs.

I use Groomers shampoo (the link has been posted above), as the shampoos are great and all plant based and natural, so no nasty chemicals and are very deep cleaning.

P.S. The Groomers shampoos smell wonderful too and the smell lasts on the dogs too.
