Today i tried turning on my pc and it won't come on properly, the power light comes on and the fan is going round but the pc is silent and normally you can hear it when it is on and working properly, also the hard drive light comes on but just stays on and nothing comes on the screen.
Any idea what could be causing this problem?
Do you get any beeps at all from the PC when you switch it on?
Do you know the brand/model of motherboard?
Did you get beeps when it worked before? (ie. the internal speaker is actually connected ;) )

No, i don't get any beeps at all from the pc, My motherboard is an Asus P5N-MX.
I did used to get a beep before when it worked but not anymore.
Sounds like bad news I'm afraid :( No beep at all suggests (to me) the mainboard has a problem that s preventing t doing its POST. Maybe a blown board, maybe BIOS issue (have you flashed the BIOS?). Eitherway, looks like new main board required.
Just to make sure....
Unplug as much as you can from the PC and (if you feel comfortable doing it) remove non-essential PCI/PCIe cards from the mainboard and try again.

I was thinking exactly the same thing myself, I put this pc together myself a few months back and it has been fine with no problems, I did flash the BIOS when i first built the pc as per the motherboard manual's instructions but i did think at the time that i shouldn't have bought this motherboard.
