Hey there

Coprophagia (poop eating) is commonly thought to be caused by a lack of nutrients in a dog's diet.

But I personally think they're just gross animals that like to gross us out as much as possible. If your dog loves poop you need to stop the act as soon as possible (lots of people on here will give tips on this).

Good luck. Zach did it the other day - he loves it - and I just make sure I drag him away and severely reprimand him with lots of NOs!

I know. Gross isn't it? Zachary was tucking into a huge pile of poop up the street the other day. I had to drag him away, and he got poop all over his nose.

Having a sand or milk beard is bad enough but a POOP BEARD - ewwwwwwwwwwww!

apparantly dogs that are fed on pedigree chum wet meat pass poos that smell very similar to how the food smells in the first place, rich and sweet. this is usually the type of poo dogs try to eat when they are out as it smells nice and like dog food. annax

I think you're right about the gross!!! Dog no 1 took a fancy to cat poop from the off, so I had to restrict access to a cat-sized gap!

Dog no 2 has a fondness for sniffing out and eating poop when we're out, and dog no 1 has also developed the taste, unfortunately. They're both on JW senior light, so they're definitely not lacking in any nutrients.

I keep as close an eye on them as I can when we're out and go into "NOOOO" mode when I catch them at it, though they're pretty hard to dissuade and I've ended up giving dog no 1 a swipe on her bum with my glove to attract her attention.

A friend's little terrier is an absolute swine and, if we're out together with our dogs, it has to be put on the lead so mine can poop in peace. :gag:
