Well knock me down with a feather!

I've never heard of a mismarked labrador but I'm assured that they exist...

See here: http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/mismarks.html

Has anyone here ever owned/heard of a mismarked lab? I'm still finding it hard to believe...

My dog Molly was a chocolate Lab with a white star on her chest and two white toes on her front paw but nothing as drastic as the ones in the pics!

With its narrow face, the rottie/ dobe-marked lab basically just looks like a dobermann, rather than any mismarking on a Labrador. (the one from the family -group)

they are all so cute though.

We had a golden lab when I was a child. Her mother was a golden, and her father was a chocolate.

I was just thinking the same about the puppy at the top right of the page PT- you could mistake it for a dobe any day of the week if you weren't told any different.

I can honestly say that I've never seen a mismarked lab, but then again I haven't been looking and don't really think about dogs as being one breed or another unless it's obvious that they are pedigree.

in kennel club standards i there is any oher colouring to the whole colour of the dog then it is not a pure bred and breed standars or something, ive seen something on it before and anydog with any other mark like a white mark anywhere on its body ect is not purebred and had been mixed somewhere downline, it was a few years ago it was on telly though so i may have got my wires crossed

A friend of mine has a tri coloured English Springer. I was adamant when I heard she had got him that they only come in red and white or black and white. Until I saw him and I must say he is a stunner. We enquired with a breeder at Crufts who said that they are very rare and shunned in the show circles.

He is the most handsome Springer I have ever seen.

Yeah, mummysaz, it may be a perfectly gorgeous/cute looking dog and it may well be a pure-bred, but if it does not conform to the colour/ look of the breed standard, then no, it cannot be used for Showing or for KC stud. (although they may be suitable for being a family pet)

With Staffies, you get the occasional black and tan or liver coloured cropping up, but you can't show them or breed from them.

All labs (in fact all dogs) have the ability to produce offspring off different colours-look at the reddest red setters to the blackest black labs to the whitest Samoyd to the spots on a dalmation-these didn't just arrive as wholly coloured dogs. They all descended from wolves which all vary but typically have grey/reddish/black colourings-the unusual, novel and "pretty" colours were selected for and bred with others of similar colours over and over to create the looks and colours of our dogs today.
I think it's quite possible that these mosaic colours can arise from purebred stock as each generation aquires different characteristics and retains some "old" genetic material. Our pup came from a litter of 10 black with a chocolate mum and yellow dad!
Also I don't know if you have heard of silver labs-not yet recognised by The KC but could be as it gains ever more popularity here are some piccies!!!

We have a Fox Red lab bitch that has a white blaze and white on her paws and the 3 black ones have more than a dash of liver running through their coats too. In "olden days" in working circles it was more common to have a dash of another colour in labs, and now its making a comeback for some reason, all our dogs are pure bred labs and I have traced their lineage back many years. One more thing, a slight rant here, whilst Teal is called Fox Red in working circles she is really a yellow labrador. There is no such thing as a Golden Labrador, Golden Retriever yes, Labrador no!!

twibstix, I'm not that good on labs and their colours (but was aware there was no such thing as golden labrador) but whatever Teal is classed as she is absolutely gorgeous!!
