View Full Version : Shakespeare in Botanical Gardens- anyone got the details?
Hi,
I keep seeing signs for productions of Much ado about nothing and Hamlet (i think!) to be held in the Botanical Gardens, but I can't see the details as I drive past - does anyone know when they are or where to get more information?
Cheers
CherryNicole 07-06-2005, 20:54 haven't seen any posters but check out the website http://www.sbg.org.uk/June.asp
DanSumption 07-06-2005, 21:10 Yeah, they spammed me today (because I have an email address up on a Sheffield am-dram website: they mailed me offering a discount on tickets if I'd send them a list of all our members. I don't think so!).
If you have no qualms about doing business with data-protection-busting spammers, their website is here (http://www.heartbreakproductions.co.uk/home.html)
Thanks for those - although I never considered that the botanical gardens would have a web site!
EdnaKrabappe 11-06-2005, 12:05 I'm going on the Saturday - you can book through Hallam FM Arena. Went last year and it is a lovely night out (as long as it is not raining) - not many tickets left though for Saturday.
It's not sheffield related since I live in Idaho but recently I went to an outdoor showing of Hamlet. It was so surreal, it starred The Dukes of Hazard, Little Bow Peep and Elvis!
EdnaKrabappe 25-05-2007, 18:20 Ok just checked out this year's offerings. Twelfth Night  21/22/23 June Merchant of Venice 4/5 August and WIZARD OF OZ! (ALthough I know that's not one of Shakespeare's better offerings;) ) - July 18-20.
Ooh might have to go twice!
I love this - it's an annual girlie night out now. My married babied friends get a pass out, we take champagne and a pic-a-nic and turn it into a lovely drunken evening! :) It's never poured it down yet but I imagine it would be dire if it did.
nightwish 26-05-2007, 09:40 I was thinking of taking our daughter to Wizard of Oz do you think kids would enjoy it?
Well what I mean is I know its for kids but sometimes they can get bored and moan so not sure really I take it you have to take your own food, drink etc?
EdnaKrabappe 26-05-2007, 12:16 You do take your own goodies but that's half the fun.
I'm having a nightmare coordinating our night though - some got family party, one got family from Australia, some got other stuff on, some can do fri but not sat, some the other way round, starting to feel like I'm the only one who'll be off to this as well :|
I dunno about children, there is usually an afternoon performance which might be more suitable as it is deathly silence the times i've been and can't recall any children there.

Surely the Wizard of Oz would be aimed at Children? Or am I wrong?

THE WIZARD OF OZ Renowned for their innovative and atmospheric open-air productions, Heartbreak have also developed an outstanding reputation for their exciting and unique adaptations: this new production set in Engalnd in the Forties is no exception.
The story that started it all…. little English farm girl, Dorothy Gale, a London WWII evacuee and her dog Toto are blown away and end up meeting a very unusual cast of characters - the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, and together they set out on a dangerous quest to see the Wizard of Oz, each of them seeking what they want most in life.
Making their way along the Yellow Brick Road through a series of hair-raising encounters, they arrive at the Emerald City only to be told by the Wizard that they first must kill the Wicked Witch of the West before he will grant their wishes.
Heartbreak’s unique interpretation and adaptation of the classic book by L Frank Baum, provides a multi-talented cast to create this wonderful story with live music that guarantees an exceptional evening of family entertainment.

Reread it = looks like you'll be fine! :)

EdnaKrabappe 21-06-2007, 19:34 Hope the rain stays off tomorrow. It's gonna be a miserable night if not!
(feel sorry for those there tonight)
Bomberman 21-06-2007, 20:42 Off to the Saturday afternoon showing. Seems a good excuse to get out and have a few bevs in the botanics :D Planning on going to see Merchant too :)
Absolutely not going to see the Wizard of Oz though :p
EdnaKrabappe 22-06-2007, 16:21 Help!
I need to know if this is still on tonight. Setting off in forty mins to pick up PC. I've tried getting through to the Botanical Gardens on the number 118 gave me 01142686001 but no answer! Does anyone know? Thanks.
Bomberman 22-06-2007, 16:37 It's stopped raining so I'd go if I were you. If it's off, there are plenty of bars around ;)
EdnaKrabappe 22-06-2007, 16:38 Cheers Bomberman. Someone else has started a thread re it as well and it seems it's on come hail come shine so we are off, with pacamac money in pocket. :D
EdnaKrabappe 23-06-2007, 12:58 Just a thumbs up from me re this. Got a clockwork orangeesque theme to it this year, if it wasn't for the cold would have been the best one i've seen yet. Get yourself along tonight if you are pausing or hesitating.
Bomberman 23-06-2007, 17:17 Aye. Despite massive trepidation when I heard it was going to be a "modern interpretation" we enjoyed this afternoons show :) Certainly be going to see Merchant too.

Does that explain the orange traffic cone being worn on the head? :suspect:
That passes as 'unique' I guess
