View Full Version : Cuba whats it like for a holiday bellis 07-06-2005, 12:47 thinking of doing one of those all inclusives to cuba in october just wondering what its like there that time of year any other info about the place will be warmly received mikey 07-06-2005, 13:36 I went last year, its great. Its basically the caribbean but a lot cheaper. The people are really friendly and the weather is good. The all inclusive resorts are great for relaxation but you wont see a lot of the real Cuba, we did a 2 centre holiday and spent 3 days in Havana which is something else and a must if you go all that way, flights are a nightmare - 10 hours cramped Varadero is the main resort area. Cayo Coco is a set of islands where only tourists go with stunning beaches. Holguin and guardalavcea ? is another area. If you want to check out reviews of hotels go to http://www.debbiescaribbeanresortreviews.com/cuba/cubarevind.html They also have a great forum to ask questions. http://debbiesreviews.proboards35.com/index.cgi? happychick 07-06-2005, 21:38 My daughter went to Cuba last year at the begining of November. She went on an all inclusive holiday to the resort of Varadaeo (hope i spelt that right). She looked amazing when she came home. I have never seen her with such a good tan. From what she told me ,plus looking at the photo's it is just like pradise. Hotel, fantastic, clean, food good & plentiful . Alchohol, lots of it (;clap;).Lovley friendly people, nightlife & entertainment to suit most peoples tastes. She also went on a couple of trips. The most enjoyable one for her was swimming with the dolphin's (£70.00). She has got a great photo of herself and a dolphin is resting it's snout on her shoulder, wow, i would love to do that myself one day. There are loads of old classic American cars out there, plus as somebody else allready mentioned trips to Havana itself. Go for it & enjoy LordSnooty 07-06-2005, 21:43 It's grate - like Skegness with cigars. rudedude1979 08-06-2005, 05:47 My gf and myself also went to varadero last year. I really enjoyed my holiday went to Havana, quite imtimidating when you are with a big group but not too bad when we were off on our own (the beggars target the big groups as there is more money to be had). Went swimming with dolphins too. The thing to remember is Cuba is not too far better off than a third world country so dont expect everything to be perfect cos it isn't. The flights there and back are terrible (Monarch) very small plane very cramped and staff who couldn't give a t*ss. The food is very bland (but plenty of it) the beaches are perfect white sand and the sea is so clear! They tell you not to buy the boxes of cigars from the locals but i would say bring as many as you dare risk! they go for a packet on ebay!!! The Cuban people are very friendly but are still learning about customer service in many places so allow for this also. I would also say take as many pens, pencils and note pads as you can and take them to a school. You wouldn't believe the cost of a pen in Cuba! It was great taking them to the school and handing them out and also very humbling to see people get such pleasure from something as simple as a pen! DAMN I want another holiday now foxy lady 03-05-2011, 15:58 thinking of doing one of those all inclusives to cuba in october just wondering what its like there that time of year any other info about the place will be warmly received An all inclusive trip is going to be a bit like Spain but with longer flights and a bit more diarrhea. You will see a resort. On the other hand you could book flights and a hotel in Havana or Santiago in which case you will see Cuba. It all depends whether you want to visit a country or just tell your friends that you have. jabusby 03-05-2011, 17:23 A few of my friends went there for their honey moon, they came back with some amazing photographs. looks like a beautiful place dongle 03-05-2011, 19:16 been to most of the caribbean islands including cuba, we stayed in cayo coco which are small islands just of the coast, the islands are fantastic for a lazy holiday but its all hotel based. consider jamaica as an alternative loads to see and do everybody speaks english. walkertelecoms 04-05-2011, 08:59 It's grate - like Skegness with cigars. LOL I fancy this place, heard good things from loads of people, but her in doors says she would hate staying in resort and being 'herded' around (odd word that). I fancy it for the kitesurfing I could do out there. Treatment 04-05-2011, 14:18 The humidity is dreadful. Grandad.Malky 04-05-2011, 14:23 It's grate - like Skegness with cigars. Haven’t they heard about smoking bans yet ? :D Mecky 04-05-2011, 14:26 Heard both good and bad things about it so I suppose it's all up to the individual. anniec 04-05-2011, 14:36 we went to guardalavaca about 4 yrs ago. I was pregnant at the time and before we went the Dr said that cuba's health service is excellent so she had no worries with me travelling their. The food was OK but not haute cuisine. The service was fantastic and everyone and I mean EVERYONE was lovely. As someone else said pens, pencils and small toiletries were very gratefully received. Dominican Republic is nicer in my opinion, although St. Lucia is the best I've been to. St. Lucia was very expensive though. walkertelecoms 06-05-2011, 14:02 we went to guardalavaca about 4 yrs ago. My parents spent almost all of their holiday in an evacuation centre because the army move everybody away from the coast and into large centres which are protected from the weather when hurricanes are predicted to hit land. Because so few Cuban people have cars the army just turn up with coaches and remove everybody in a very well practised drill. Cuba hasn't lost a single inhabitant to a hurricane in a very long time, and that is mostly because by the time a hurricane actually gets to the island everybody has already been moved away from the coast; the at risk areas are evacuated half a dozen times most years apparently. For that reason I'd choose to go outside of the normal hurricane season if I was going to go to Cuba. |
