They did have a menu up but I couldn't take a gander as I was concerend in case the sign fell on my head. Have you been pyro . . . or anyone? verona 22-12-2008, 17:17 It was the Grand opening on Sunday, invite only. I didn't get an invite but when I drove past it looked finished and ready for the opening night. The owners also have the Thai supermarket on London Road so should be good fresh produce used. pyrospriggs@ 22-12-2008, 21:37 I was next door at Noodle Inn on Friday and they were still working on the sign. GQsm 29-12-2008, 21:15 I'll look out for this place next time I'm on London Road Caz1 01-01-2009, 22:14 Has anyone been yet and do they do takeaway? Hi there We went on Christmas Eve for takeaway, very friendly and helpful staff when we queried menu and although pricey our takeaway was delicious and we will definately be going back. Some people were eating in and the food looked lovely jemson 03-01-2009, 14:20 Is Thai Punna a bring your own booze restaurant? verona 03-01-2009, 14:53 Not been yet but I had a look at the menu and it is expensive. You would think with them owning a Thai supermarket and cutting out the middle man they might have been at bit more competative in their pricing for that area where you can get a far cheaper meal without dipping out on quality. I know all Thai restaurants are expensive, but I can't see why now that the products and ingredients they use a far more easily available and so should now be on par with Chinese restaurants. I don`t really think that`s that relevant. I`d say the value there is reasonable. verona 04-01-2009, 16:18 I don`t really think that`s that relevant. I`d say the value there is reasonable. Have you been then? Please tell us what it's like and why it's reasonable value compared to all the other restaurants in that area? jemson 05-01-2009, 15:22 Yes, and I preferred it to Baan and Inter. Our meal there came to just over £30, it was good food and our dining experience there was very pleasing. verona 05-01-2009, 19:00 Yes, and I preferred it to Baan and Inter. Starters, main courses, desserts, drinks. And would you say it was good value compared to the other Asian restaurants on London Road or only to the Thai restaurants on there? jemson 06-01-2009, 16:46 That doesn't sound too bad but what did you have? I put a mini review of it on another thread I started on here. The chinese food is cheaper as are kebabs and burgers on London Road. I would say Punna is good value. We`ll go again. pyrospriggs@ 09-01-2009, 17:25 i shouldn't go if you can't afford to eat there you won't enjoy it.you should try wokmania if you want cheap low quality food.Thai food is extremley expensive to import.lol lol lol lol Not been yet but I had a look at the menu and it is expensive. Shelectric 11-01-2009, 10:46 Whenever I've cooked Thai food it requires far more ingredients and effort than Chinese. these ingredients have to be imported which makes it expencive, but well worth it. I've not yet eaten at Punna but i've looked at the menu and it looked cheaper than Bahn Thai, and there were new, different dishes to try, I'm really looking forwards to eating there. Alastair 17-01-2009, 18:46 We went to the Thai Punna this evening, very good too  mickyt 17-01-2009, 23:44 I would agree with Verona. It is a little more expensive than expected considering that all food is supplied by their own supermarket but having said that the quality was pretty good but far from perfect. I have had better. Nevertheless, i would go again but not in a hurry after all i can eat better for cheaper elsewhere (ie. at home). Nonetheless, i cannot fault it appart from to say that all the dishes where all served on cold plates which in turn made the food go cold rather quickly and the male waiter should be taught how to smile to the customers esspecially when he is from the land of smiles but then again he has probably lived in England for too long now and forgot how. Ps. Pyrospriggs quit the attitude and get a life lillyy 25-01-2009, 12:37 It's a good restaurant u should try rosaespanola 01-02-2009, 07:25 We ate here on Friday night and we were both pretty impressed - the menu was interesting and fairly different to the menus at Baan Thai & Siam Inter, which was nice. I'm vegetarian so my choice is obviously more limited when I eat out, and even though I really like both of the other Thai restaurants, I've been to them both often enough that I've tried all of the veggie dishes I like the sound of so it was good to see some things I'd never had before and to have similar things done in a different way. The service was excellent and the food was really really tasty. We had the vegetarian mixed starter which had various things like sweetcorn cakes, mushrooms & veg on skewers and battered veg, plus dipping sauces - all really good. For the mains, I had red curry with vegetables, which was much milder than the way they do it at Baan Thai but still very tasty, and my boyfriend had sirloin steak cooked with onion and spices, which he said was excellent. The dessert menu wasn't very extensive and everything on it revolved around banana/coconut custard/icecream which didn't appeal to me at the time because I was too full, but would no doubt have been nice if I'd had space for it! They also do alcoholic & non-alcoholic cocktails (I can recommend the non-alcoholic orange, passion fruit & coconut milk one!). The bill came to just over £40 for starters, mains, one pudding and several drinks, which I think is comparable to the other Thai restaurants in the area. If we'd just stuck to drinking jasmine tea like we usually do, it'd have been a good lot cheaper, but we had 2 or 3 drinks each so that bumped the price up. If you're going on a weekend, it'd definitely be a good idea to book - we just turned up at about 7.15pm and were lucky enough to get the last table for 2, and there wasn't a spare table for the rest of the night, they were having to turn people away. We left at about 9.30pm and it still hadn't quietened down! jemson 01-02-2009, 20:08 Good review rosa! I agree with your opinions! JohnM 02-02-2009, 13:46 The dessert menu wasn't very extensive and everything on it revolved around banana/coconut custard/icecream which didn't appeal to me at the time I think you'll find the same at most thai palces - there isnt the same tradition of desserts in thai food that there is in some cuisines - so most desserts tend to be made up for western palates... rosaespanola 02-02-2009, 16:51 I think you'll find the same at most thai palces - there isnt the same tradition of desserts in thai food that there is in some cuisines - so most desserts tend to be made up for western palates... I know that, I was just explaining it for people who maybe haven't eaten much Thai food and wouldn't know what to expect from desserts. I love the coconut desserts but I was way too full (especially after having had a very coconutty curry for my main course). I'd have been happy with just some kind of fruit salad or something, but I wasn't too bothered after all the curry I'd had! fre123 15-02-2009, 16:12 I visited this restaurant recently and can't say as I was that impressed by it... Have previously tried both Baan Thai and Siam Inter and have to say that I prefer both of them to this place- both of our meals were served luke warm (as were the starters also) and one of the dishes was overcooked and far to hot (spicy) whilst the other dish was undercooked!! Also found the staff to be less than attentive and not really that friendly! Really didn't feel it was worth the money paid and ended up wishing we had gone to Siam Inter instead!! jemson 15-02-2009, 17:34 Reading this thread, it just goes to show that taste is personal. Sorry to hear you didnt have a good meal. I have just been again for valentines night and have to say the meal was delicious. Mixed thai starters and then red curry and sea bass with thai spices was all very nice. Service was very efficient despite being very busy and the staff were lovely. Will be going again definately. fre123 15-02-2009, 21:20 Sorry to hear you didnt have a good meal. I have just been again for valentines night and have to say the meal was delicious. Sounds quite different to our experience Caz! Would say service distinctly unefficient when we went!- Waited for about an hour for starters and the table next to us who had arrived half an hour after us got their starters first!! Tyranna 16-02-2009, 20:30 DEMPSEYS, at No. 1, Hereford St, the Moor, are now doing a wide selection of Thai food, at £5 a meal.. watusi 26-04-2009, 12:38 We've had 3/4 take aways which have been consistently good (nb they don't deliver as yet) and we ate in last week and had a great meal- at what is reasonable value for the quality- good service, you're not rushed and lovely fresh ingredients. Had mixed starters to share and I had marinated pork-they are good size portions too. For mains think we had a jungle curry, Gaeng mat man/musuman type curry? and chicken stir fry between us which were all nice- also you can ask for a particular curry to be made hotter/milder to your taste. Don't usually have desserts at thai/chinese but as it was a birthday meal had thai pancake which was yum! Eat out a fair amount in Sheffield and would definitely recommend. Used to go to Noodle King before it closed and although it is slightly more expensive it is far better quality/taste. jemson 26-04-2009, 15:13 I wonder how this place is doing. Been past on a Saturday night and it was quiet relative to nearby competitors. |
