View Full Version : Anyone had trouble with "The Link" phone insurance?
glitterbug 06-06-2005, 21:37 My phone was reported lost in March, reported lost to police also, but The Link will not replace it although it is covered for loss, i'm still paying line rental AND insurance for a phone i do not possess. What else can i do... it's been three months since I reported it lost and still no replacement phone. I have nine months left on my contract so cancelling is not an option for me, but surely, what is the point of having insurance if you can't get a replacement phone!!! HELP!?
Have they given you a reason why they won't replace it?
evildrneil 06-06-2005, 22:13 Have they said why they won't replace it?

Not specifically dealt with The Link, but I've had no problems at all with Phones4U or O2 insurance. Have you tried going to the shop you bought it from and getting it sorted through them? I've always found a bit of 'face time' can sort problems, especially seeing as they can access all your account details right there in front of you to make sure there's nothing amiss.
make sure u get a crime refernce number from the police- you will need this to get a new phone- ring them up and explain how it got stolen or broken - if they agree its within the terms of the insurance then they HAVE to send you a new one- if they say it isn't covered by the insurance- say you want a written letter expalining WHY they are not going to honour the insurance. you can then take it further from there if you disagree.
It might also be a good time to check the terms on conditions of your insurance!
glitterbug 07-06-2005, 16:02 I have explained to them that it was lost and not stolen, so can't get a crime reference number; they told me to get a loss reference number which i then asked the police for and they told me they didn't give them out. I informed the insurance company of this who told me to write a covering letter and send it off with my claims form and there should be no problem. I am now going round in circles phoning up the company getting told to fill in more claims forms and more covering letters but not getting any further, meanwhile they are still taking out my direct debit and have taken the £25 of postal orders I had to send towards a new Samsung D500. Anymore ideas please???

Thats what I found.
I made my story fit the requirements and conditions of my insurance after breaking my phone.
Turns out that I only remembered I had my mobile phone insured when they wrote to me trying to sell me an extension.
Had changed my handset twice over a 5 year period, and they still repaired it after registering with the correct department.
I can say I was well chuffed because I thought I had lost all of my numbers.
Forgot to back them up before formatting the puter :(
Bottom line is that insurance companies make money out of you.
So if something does go wrong, help the truth along a little sometimes ?

trophyman 08-06-2005, 08:50 i bought a phone from them last year while on holiday in sunny skeggy. by october the phone wouldnt charge or anything. i took it back and when i went down to pick it up they told me it couldnt be fixed because there was traces of water inside the charging connection which was a load of crap because if there had been i wouldnt have even bothered to take it back and face the humiliation of being told this.
i have sworn not to get another phone from them as i also know of other people who have had problems.
think i will stick with my sl65 on contract from now on!

The 'water damage so not covered by warranty' line is the first training staff at The Link get, I think. I've bought a couple of phones from them (a long time ago; I've since learned by lesson) and had that crap wheeled out, even when one of them was DOA! I've overheard or heard of so many cases where they refuse warranty claims due to water damage that I figure it's their stock response to any fault...

so why didnt you just get the phone back and take it to an independent repairer? makes perfect sense to me, and if it was found to just have a normal fault, then claim the repair back off link.
fact is, you can bad mouth link all you want, but there is absolutely no reason they would say it is water damaged if this was not the case
