I have a slow puncture and need a new back tyre. The only place in the Yellow pages that I can find that sells and fits motorbike tyres is Effingham Tyres. Does anyone know anywhere else? Or recommend somehwere?

Cheers.

You could try Sid Smiths on Darnall (Greenland Road).

I use them quite alot, another idea is ebay and get a private shop like him to fit them.

Still save you some money :)

I'd recommend Manhattan Motorcycles in Heeley (near Halfords).

http://www.yell.com/ucs/UcsSearchAction.do;jsessionid=c9O8PEylVEze?searchT ype=classic&ooa=on&keywords=&companyName=manhattan+motorcycles&location=sheffield&x=0&y=0http://www.yell.com/ucs/UcsSearchAction.do;jsessionid=c9O8PEylVEze?searchT ype=classic&ooa=on&keywords=&companyName=manhattan+motorcycles&location=sheffield&x=0&y=0

I've always gone there for my parts and servicing (as has the old man) and they can do tyres for 'peds up to superbikes.

I've tried finding this place before, with no luck, is it well hidden?

I'd like to go whilst the other half is browsing around Halfords (because Halfords are carp for bike stuff)

How much is a service?

Ok, from Halfords, walk down the road past Dolland & Aitchison past Machine Mart and over the allegedly temporary bridge that's been temporary for as long as I can remember. After pausing to consider at what point temporary ceases to be such, proceed past the bathroom place and it's on the corner of the second road on the left opposite the pub (if you go past the railway bridge on your right, you've gone too far).

It rather depends on the bike, I fear. I tend to do my own servicing so couldn't really tell you. Give Paul a phone at Manhattan and I'm sure he can sort you something out.

Hope this helps!

I take it you haven't been back to Sheffield from Brighton for the last 3 years then, since it's been at least that long since that "temporary" bridge was removed.

Manhattan has been there for decades. It is a smart double fronted shop nowadays. It used to be a bit of a seedy shop in years gone by, but now it's bright, airy and modern, with decent people working there.

It is on London road just before it changes it's name to Chesterfield road. About 1/3 of a mile south from halfords, it is between a betting shop and the red lion Pub, and is on the corner of london road and Thirlwell road.

beansforyou,
you probably didn't walk far enough, it's a bit further than you think from halfords to Manhattan, first over the river bridge, then under the railway bridges over london road, you go right past ponsfords and then the white lion then you're there

I have found Manhattan's to be a cracking little bike shop.

They've serviced my bike since I moved into Sheffield and they've always been helpful and never ever mucked me around.

In all honesty I haven't really lived in Sheffield for the last 5 years. I still miss the homeland though and consider myself a Sheffielder rather than a Londoner, Switzerlander or, most recently, Brightoner.

I guess it's a small mercy that the directions didn't involve going past Sheaf Valley baths and the hole in the road...

Being a Sheffielder born n bred...it wouldn't have really mattered which classic landmark you would have used for your directions, I would have understood and knew where you meant, and said thanks...

not shot you down in flames (I guess its a hobby to some :loopy: )

I recommend either Manhattans (several mentions here, so it looks to be favourate) or Performance Parts on Abbeydale Road.

I recently got quotes from most garages in Sheffield and Chesterfield for a new rear tyre on my bike and Performance Parts were the cheapest at £110 inc. fitting (beat the nearest competitor by a whole £3)

The "classic landmark" is Heeley Bridge...

...my point was that ADC_28 really laboured the point of the "temporary" bridge still being there...

...which it isn't (and it hasn't been for a long time).

He took the comment with good grace, which you have failed to do, never mind, obviously you're one of those people who over-reacts to a bit of banter...

...I guess that's a hobby for some. :loopy:

I don't over - react, I just find it amusing when people have nothing better to do than correct other people, especially when they haven't contributed a single thing to the actual topic at hand.

As ADC_28 pointed out, thank the lord he didn't mention somewhere seriously incorrect...just imagine the consequences!! :nono:

Again, thanks ADC_28 for actually being some help...

I didn't add anything to the description ( by ADC_28 ) since (excepting the error regarding the "temporary" bridge) it was actually very good, and to do so would have been a waste of my (and everyone elses) time...

...but I have to wonder, what would have happened if some-one who isn't "Sheffield born n bred", and not as familiar with the area (as you so clearly are) had tried to find the place by navigating from the "temporary" bridge?

Never mind, I obviously shouldn't have mentioned anything.

As tiring as this is becoming, I feel I must clarify, if you re-read the thread, I had already thanked ADC_28 for his directions (that I asked for) and confirmed that I knew where the place was, this is why I saw no reason to correct him so, he'd done his bit, and i'd done mine...so where did you fit in?

Thankyou for your kind touch though :)

Ahem, my point was (if you had read my post properly), what if somebody else tried to find the place using the "temporary" bridge as a landmark?

Anyhoo....

I went to Manhattens today (managed to find it....despite the temporary bridge not being there...woohoo  )

I was surprised how small it was, but they seemed very helpful, and I had a nice drool over the Dragstar they have in.

I'm taking my bike for its MOT tomorrow to a place near me (stocksbridge) they're supposed to be good, i'll report back and let people know, because I for one don't think there are enough bike related stores/ garages in Sheffield.

I can say from personal experiance that this is a very good garage. Top bloke who is fair (nobody wants to ride a dangerous machine) but biker friendly:wink:

Re-aligned my headlight free of charge so gave him a tip anyway:clap:
Guess I'm too easy with my cash:rolleyes:

Got back and its passed no problem, the chain needs replacing soonish though.

Top bloke, really friendly and helpful, he re-aligned my headlight, adjusted the chain and did a few other bits n bobs as well for a fiver more than the MOT (£15) which, with being a newbie, really helped me out, as I might manage a spark plug change but don't want to be messing with the chain etc just yet

So if you out Stocksbridge way, then give them a try, really fab

Told you he's a good un:thumbsup:

Regarding your chain, it's highly advisable to renew both sprockets at the same time as the old ones will wear the new chain prematurely:nod:
It's your call though:wink:
Happy riding:wave:

Yeah the sprockets are going to be replaced too (there goes my holiday pocket money) but it's well worth it ~ I'm one hooked fish
