Well i live in Leadmill Court and have been to view a few others.

Leadmill court is in a good location for me, close to most things. But there are two big student accommodation blocks close by. So be prepared for noise, depending on what side of the building you live on. The sound proofing (internally and externally) is ok, but you do occasionally get a little noise, depends how much you can cope with that. But everybody in the apartments seems fairly respectful. The apartments are decent. Bathrooms are pretty good, kitchens are generic and not the best quality, but it's ok for me. They have balconets not balconies though. Service charge is £50 a month i believe (i rent so don't know). Like all the apartments they are not big, unless you are spending £150,000+. But they are very lovable, easy to clean and cheap to heat. Parking is hard round there and getting worse. There is a local shop just round the corner that sells most things, including cheap booze (for the students). There are lifts to all floors. They also have video phone entry. Some good local pubs, the cinema just round the corner and the Leadmill on the next street.

I have also been to see the brewery apartments on Eccelshall road. The apartments are a little smaller than ours, they do all have balconies and parking is pretty good (they have an underground garage). Most seem to face the busy road though, so how usable those balconies are is speculative. Apart from being right on the road, they are close to good bars and restaurants. They also have lifts to all floors and video entry.

Riverside exchange are probably the biggest, they have usable balconies (the one we went to see overlooked the river). They are wooden so no BBQs allowed. Parking seems good and i think there is a shop on site. It's a very big complex though, not sure i like the size of it, or the location. Although it's quieter it's harder to walk places. They have lifts and voice entry.

Not sure what the complex is called but there is a very new block near the courts. I would be very careful about those. They are all the worst parts of the rest. Small, generic fixtures, no lifts, little parking and very short term meters (although you may be able to get a pass from the council if they applied for street parking, which i doubt they did). They are basically in the centre of the city however.

There are some god looking apartments actually in the city, above shops. They have absolutely no parking which is what put me off, but they do have more character than the modern developments and are even closer to the action.

Trippett (is that spelled right?) Lane.

Hey.

Isn't Trippet La IN town ? it's just off CHurch street, you can't get much closer can ya ? :)

I thought Leadmill Court was the students flats, i walk along 'em everyday when going to Hallam. You might have a bit of noise coming from the Leadmill (club), especially on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays (made my point i think :) )

Regards,
Greg

Yeah Trippett lane is basically in town, but of all the places i have seen that is BY FAR the worst.

To be honest you don't get ANY noise from the Leadmill. It's more the students who live in those blocks coming back down Matilda lane, from Gatecrasher or where ever. The only other route back down form the pubs and bars is a small alley that goes the other side of Leadmill street, so you don't hear a peep from them. It's just the people who are walking from the moore side of Leadmill Street.

I think if you wanting to move to a city centre place and do not expect noise you are being unrealistic. As this person said, he is tired of the quiet life.
