Hi all, yet another council house exchange has come about for me again and I would be really grateful if you could tell me what you know of the area Cawood Road in Burngreave.

I did a search on Burngreave and I get the impression the area has a bit of a bad reputation & considering that I have a 6 year old son to think about I really want to make sure he is not at risk.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Jo

Carwood road? If thats what you meant then they are not bad. Due to be modernised in the next couple of years so you could be onto a winner :) Is it one of the houses or flats? Either way they are quite a good size and I think the kitchens were done last summer so they should be ok. The heating it district so you pay a flat rate regardless of how much you use. Good bus routes and local shops. Go for it. :)

Hope I have got this in before T020 starts ranting about how you will get robbed and murdered.

Thanks for that neeeeeeeeeek, yes you got in before T020.

The property is a 2 bed house and the chap that rang me told me the house has just had a fitted kitchen and the heating was included with the rent which is pretty good news.

Just have my concerns about the area more than anything, but I am glad you have recommended it, I'm viewing it this weekend so should have a better clue.

Hope it is a winner then my search will finally be over fingers crossed.

I have lived on Burngreave road for nearly 3 years and have never seen any trouble. The place is not like it was 10 years ago. I am not saying it's perfect but I feel safe walking anywhere in the area day or night, the people are friendly, the area is very well lit, they are investing a lot of money and it is paying off. I tend to find that most of the people who slag the area off and tell people to avoid it have not actually been there. Some people on this forum are even scared of going to the Mangla on Spital hill for a curry so how on earth they can comment on the general area in beyond me! Take a wander about is my suggestion and see if you feel comfortable.

I'll second that neeeeeeeeeek, although Burngreave has had it's problems, it's not a bad area. I've been living here with my family for 25 years.

Just having a look around in the Burngreave area, and it is very difficult to even find a property which is for rent or for sale.

I won't say it is perfect, but then where is?

I used to live on Canada Street, which is just round the corner and moved out about 15 years ago. About that time the Ellesmere and Carwood estates nosedived and became quite unsavoury places. We were burgled 3 times in a year. But since then a lot has been done, it's a friendly area, the buses could be better (but they could be everywhere!), and it's near to town and Meadowhall. It's OK, go for it and enjoy. Maybe the Hallcar pub is still going as well. That was OK, too.
