Software updater asked if OK to do an update, sure I said, thinking it was saying 37.7MB update. It's actually 377MB. Why is it so enormous ?! :loopy:

Grissom 16-12-2008, 19:08 Yeah there is a whole page here about it, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3194 I love these two enhancements : Addresses inaccuracies with Calculator when the Mac OS X language is set to German or Swiss German Improves the performance and reliability of Chess. :) Fingers 16-12-2008, 19:41 Software updater asked if OK to do an update, sure I said, thinking it was saying 37.7MB update. It's actually 377MB. Why is it so enormous ?! :loopy: If it's the update to 10.5.6 what are you updating from? I have 10.5.5 and I haven't updated to 10.5.6 yet but when I read about it and ran Software Update to find out how big the update would be it said that it would be 190MB, not 377MB. Have you missed the 10.5.5 update (which, if I remember rightly, was around 180MB)? Grissom 16-12-2008, 19:43 Thought it said it was on 10.5.5 beforehand, I install all the updates as it tells me it wants them. Most odd :) fnkysknky 16-12-2008, 21:33 I've updated today and it was 190MB if that helps.... itosan 16-12-2008, 23:00 The last software update i ran was at the weekend 13th/14th no updates were found and i have 1 or 2 high end apps installed. It's actually 377MB. Why is it so enormous ?! :loopy:Simple it's because OSX is still so darn buggy and it needs a lot of fixing! Just like Windows. I use OSX and get very tired of Apple and Apple fanbois saying how much better it is than Windows as it just works - I wish! If that was truly the case why is this the 6th major update/service pack in just a year and with 40 odd bug fixes on this occasion alone? I'll wait a few days to see what the new sets of bugs are before installing, just in case. For example 10.5.6 fixes some bugs introduced by the 10.5.2 bug fix. abbasinho 17-12-2008, 10:11 Apple do update thier software a lot, they seem to release a new iTunes every week. I wish they would add automatic spelling and punctuation correction to Mail like they have on the iPhone. That would be nice for us lazy caps-lock avoiders. jezzyjj 17-12-2008, 19:53 Apple do update thier software a lot, they seem to release a new iTunes every week. I still hate it though! :gag: I wish they would add automatic spelling and punctuation correction to Mail like they have on the iPhone. That would be nice for us lazy caps-lock avoiders. One of my favourite things on OSX is how easy it is to turn off Caps lock. I use several diferent keyboards on several different computers and am always hitting caps lock by accident, so being able to easily disable it is great. Turning it off on a PC is a real pain. 10.5.6 is 190M here as well itosan 19-12-2008, 00:27 I still hate it though! :gag: One of my favourite things on OSX is how easy it is to turn off Caps lock. Time to sell my MAC and get a real OS :P jezzyjj 19-12-2008, 11:00 It's only a little thing, but it gets rid of a constant annoyance, so more useful than say iTunes. It was particularly annoying when using a keyboard that had the caps lock indicator on the separate wireless connector, that was out of sight. :loopy: jezzyjj 19-12-2008, 11:37 I updated yesterday and after updating and restarting the computer, it then refused to shut down!! It worked fine before the bug fix! HarmOKnee 20-12-2008, 00:13 Mine says 190MB too. I think I'll hang on to 10.5.5 a bit longer InTheUK 21-12-2008, 00:07 I wish they would add automatic spelling and punctuation correction to Mail Wish (at least half) Granted... From within Mail, Edit menu, Spelling and Grammer, Check Spelling, While Typing. I guess you have this set to 'Never'? |
