THIEVES broke into a Sheffield cancer centre and stole a computer used by patients and their relatives.

The break-in, at Weston Park Hospital's Cancer Information and Support Centre, also caused severe damage to a window, which was wrenched opened.

Centre manager Karen Holmes said she was shocked at the theft, and added it would be clear to anyone breaking-in that the computer and other facilities are to help people fighting against cancer.

Karen said: "We cannot believe how much damage they have caused. It is clear the people who did this don't have any morals."
The centre, which is at the back of the Weston Park Hospital, on Northumberland Road, opened last month, and provides support and information to cancer patients on issues such as their treatment and financial advice. Relatives can also drop in to pick up information.

Police are investigating the break-in which happened at around 10.30pm on Thursday night on the building at the corner of Northumberland Road and Wellesley Road, behind Weston Park Hospital.
