View Full Version : What's your favourite non-alcoholic drink?
For me it has to be tea, nice and strong, milk, no sugar. I couldn't start the day without a couple of cups.
Tea is run a close second by cold milk. Which reminds me of years gone by when we had milk in those third of a pint bottles at school. They'd be sitting outside for hours in summer in the baking sun and by the time we drank them they were on the verge of turning sour, yuk.
Whats your fave non-alcho tipple?
alchresearch 06-11-2003, 17:33 Strong Tea (Yorkshire of course), with milk, no sugar.
Followed by Strawberry milkshake and pineapple juice a close third.
On one post a short while ago, someone mentioned about the quality of Sheffield water. I had a glass last week for the first time in ages and it tasted spectacular!

Lashings of ginger beer would get my vote
Tea first thing in a morning
Orange juice after a night on the other type of drink
I do drink quite a bit of water during the day and usually have a bottle with me.
I guess I'd have to say proper coffee first, but I also love tea.
A very refreshing non- alchoholic drink I like : ginger ale + lime juice + loads of ice.
Basically it's a Moscow Mule without the vodka.
Nomme
fresh coffee, first thing milk no sugar
or old jamaican ginger beer with loadsa ice
fnkysknky 07-11-2003, 10:11 I've usually got a drink of water with me :)
I like the pinkish couloured Fanta!

With the weekend coming up, you might find use for this recipe for bhang from Flavors of India by Shanta Nimbark Sacharoff.
2 cups water
1 ounce marijuana (fresh leaves and flowers of a female plant preferred)
4 cups warm milk
2 tablespoons blanched and chopped almonds
1/8 teaspoon garam masala [a mixture of cloves, cinnamon, and cardamon]
1/4 teaspoon powdered ginger
1/2 to 1 teaspoon rosewater
1 cup sugar
Bring the water to a rapid boil and pour into a clean teapot. Remove any seeds or twigs from the marijuana, add it to the teapot and cover. Let this brew for about 7 minutes.
Now strain the water and marijuana through a piece of muslin cloth, collect the water and save. Take the leaves and flowers and squeeze between your hands to extract any liquid that remains. Add this to the water.
Place the leaves and flowers in a mortar and add 2 teaspoons warm milk. Slowly but firmly grind the milk and leaves together. Gather up the marijuana and squeeze out as much milk as you can. Repeat this process until you have used about 1/2 cup of milk (about 4 to 5 times).
Collect all the milk that has been extracted and place in a bowl. By this time the marijuana will have turned into a pulpy mass. Add the chopped almonds and some more warm milk.
Grind this in the mortar until a fine paste is formed. Squeeze this paste and collect the extract as before. Repeat a few more times until all that is left are some fibers and nut meal. Discard the residue.
Combine all the liquids that have been collected, including the water the marijuana was brewed in. Add to this the garam masala, dried ginger and rosewater. Add the sugar and remaining milk. Chill, serve, and enjoy.
It seems a bit labor intensive, but then it is meant as an offering to Shiva.
convert to bhang lassi by adding lots of yoghurt. mmm.

It's a nice thought, but sadly impossible, unless we have a continental meetup in "der klassiske rock baren" in northern holland or switzerland.
How bout it CRB? Open a few smoker friendly foreign franchises!
Martin_s 12-11-2003, 12:45 Gotta be the Raspberry and Orange Juice drink you can get from Marks and Spencer...
Yum!!
Normally though it's Lime and Soda in pint glasses for me... good thirst quencher :)
Sam Miguel 20-02-2004, 19:57 I love Fanta orange. Nice and cold out of the machine after a good swim.

It's basically a Moscow Mule but without the Vodka.
Well that's my fav anyway.
Nomme
BrainThrust 20-02-2004, 20:58 can i add vanilla vodka to it? it is the only vodka i like?
it works great with orange juice, to go off topic.
Wilf
A cold bottle of Coca-Cola (must be in Contour Glass bottle! )
Diet coke, no ice.
Works every time, especially when you've just been swimming and are trying to be good and not put all those calories back on by drinking beer.
J20... orange and passion fruit.
heaven in a bottle...
Cranberry juice for me:thumbsup: :wow:
yummy.....
tizer. reminds me of my youth (long time ago now).
SilentStatic 20-02-2004, 22:43 Water. Can't live without it :P
kittykat 21-02-2004, 02:05 passionfruit mmmmmmmmmm
Diet Sprite - LOTS of ice. Makes your teeth hurt.
Has anyone had a brain freeze from drinking an iced cold drink or a frozen drink like a banana daquiri or pina colada? I haven't but apparantly I am the odd one out. It's very common. But having said that, Brits don't use much ice in their drinks and the beer is warm. So is it a phenomenon? Your head goes iced cold and pain surges through your head. Last about 10 seconds. I'd never heard of it before but lots of people get it ??

Tizer used to be my favourite drink with fish and chips. Is it me, or isn't it the same now?

yes, i've experienced this many times, usually when eating ice cream. don't know if it indicates anything abnormal???
Chris_Sleeps 21-02-2004, 18:06 Under the right circumstances milk can be fantastic.
Chris.

as far as i can remember (and dont quote me on this) tizer was part of Manchester soft drinks company 'Pickups' before being taken over by Scottish company 'Barrs' (who make irn bru). maybe they changed the recipe slightly?
Sam Miguel 21-02-2004, 18:14 That does ring a bell. Yes, I bet the recipe is slighly diffferent. It was the distinct-shaped bottle that gave Tizer its appeal.
Do you remember Jusoda too?
erm
blackcurrant cordial with lemonade with lime jif, and orange cordial until it turns deep orange.
odd combo but it tastes gorgeous
Blackcurrent and soda water.
Apple Juice ... mmm.

Yes, that was orangeade, wasn't it? was that Pickups as well. if so, Barrs must have scrapped it for their own version of orange. cant quite get to grips with irn bru. too sickly sweet for my liking.
Sam Miguel 21-02-2004, 19:15 Yes, Jusoda was not completely undifferent to Fanta Orange - but was nicer. Can't remember who by but it was the same firm as Tizer because the bottles were more-or-less the same shape.
They had 'waists'.
fresh orange juice and lemonade (costs a fortuned in the pub though)
or
semi-skimmed milk!
It used to be Ribena but thinking about it, you can't really beat a 'nice cuppa tea'
Phanerothyme 23-02-2004, 11:12 mushroom tea :)
failing that, tea.
failing that, coffee.
failing that, Rooibosch Tea.
Mosherchik 23-02-2004, 15:44 Cold drink right?
Any Frescato from Costas as theyre all gorge and have the pleasures of caffeine!
Also one of the few people who can stand Red Bull without the vodka!
in fact mix Red Bull and Lucozade! then stand well back! :wow: :wow: :wow:
Carlwarker 23-02-2004, 16:07 Milk - with or without scotch.;)
Martin_s 23-02-2004, 16:20 Orange and Raspberry fruit juice (usually from M&S)...

mmm ... Green Tea !!
mmm ... Beer !!
I had some Yop today - first time for ages, ummmm yummy - all the fun of yogurt without a spoon! Make sure you hold the top when you shake it though - my old housemate didn't once, hours of fun cleaning refreshing yogurt drink off the kitchen roof, floor, cupboards....

Yes, it is sooo not unfashionable to carry a designer bottle of mineral water around with you. The great thing about it is, you only have to buy a bottle once, and then you can just fill it up from any old tap and look cool forever for free.
i quite like milkshakes - preferably vanila :D
in Germany we used to drink 'Mezzo Mix' - a mix of orangeade and cola - it's as popular over there as cola is over here
quite nice actually!
When i'm not drinking duff I like a nice chocolate milkshake! Oh yeah!
