Bit of a grim post i no but thats me. Recently watched a prog on sky which showed a 100 sailors trapped in a boat in second world war who were doomed to die a slow death trapped in there sunken ship. It got me thinking how these chaps felt as there oxygen ran out knowing they were going to die. what thoughts go thro your mind at this time, family, friends , things youv not done , things you did you regretted. Ive always had a fear of fire and burning but altho we all shovel it one day im not sure the worst way or scenario would be. :| :|

My God man..........are you alright!!

It's a lovely day outside, why don't you go for a walk.

Actually, my worst way to die would be me and Tony Ruscoe trapped in a submarine laying on the sea bed...no chance of rescue...toxic fumes already seaping into the air....but it wouldn't matter...cus Tony would bore me to death.

musing on your own mortality is one thing ... dwelling on nasty ways to die is quite another ..... I think I'd sooner have Tony Ruscoe(whoever he is, lol)

drowning. if i'm on fire i mite survivie so tht aint 2 bad. getting chased by dogs is bad but they might not bite or u may escape. but drowning arghhh!!!! the thought is bad enough.

Surviving a plane crash to be swept onto a desert Island full of cannibals, having to hide from them before they catch you in a net and spear you. Then peel your skin off with blunt instruments and throw salt on you before lowering you into a cauldron full of boiling oil to fry, hearing your eyes pop out and your skin blister in the heat.

. . . . . I wouldn't want that.:help:

Although I would hate to be boiled alive, or drown very slowly in a doomed submarine, I think crucifixion must have been a very agonising way to go. It was basically a way to asphyixiate the victim, the lungs filling with fluid due to the poor victims own weight. If you were able to support your weight by digging your feet against the woodwork, then the guards would break your legs with an axe for you ( as a bonus) to ensure an even more agonising end.

i know your post is its hypothetical, but when you,ve been through it in real life you tend to ignore your fate as you get older, ive been burried down coal mines, trapped in brick kiln collappses, shot at,stabbed, poisened, beaten up, and now have asbestos on the lung, had two strokes, the wife left and im looking after two kids.......but each day i wake up is a bonus,

dont dwell on your future, enjoy today lifes to short, tell the people you care for that you love them, one dauy it will be to late and you will wish you had said what you wanted to say while they were there with you, i know what your post meant, everyone one is curious how they will face the final day,but you dont know till it happens.

personally all i could think about was what will my two kids do without me,i dont want them split up or in foster homes, but once you accept it you look around you, your real friends come to you, and you realise, there is no need to worry, its sorted, and when you die you dont have any more responsibility, its like i thought i had to sort everything, but when youre gone, some one else steps in.rambling now but i think you get the gist, enjoy life wile your here........

They say drowning is the best way to die, because once you've got over the initial instinctive struggle, it's very very peaceful.

I would hate to burn. If I had been born in the time of witches, I'd have been burnt due to my disability/condition as I have a birthmark that goes with it. And when I watched Joan of Arc, i just could not imagine the immense pain of being burnt from feet up. Or, being crucified. That's horrible. hanging there with nails in your hands waiting until your body finally packs up.

I had a dream once that we were all in this place and it started to flood and we ran for the elevator - the only way out. I got in and my mum and sister came running in. The elevator could only make one trip as it would be flooded after that. And as my mum ran in, she realised she didn't have my sister - she looked back with her hand still stretched into the elevator the doors closed on her hand. and the elevator went up.
I woke up in a cold sweat, had to check we were all here and was devastated at myself. I felt sooo guilty for having dreamt it.
I think that would be worse, if you survived but to the cost of others lives. I couldn't live with myself.

ditto.

Having faced death a couple of times (though not knowing until afterwards) I realise how lucky I am to be here now. Or, should I be here now? And I worry like hell, what if it happens again? What one earth would my family do?
I don't want to blow my own trumpet but I know they love me so much, I'd hate to leave them.

I would hate to be lashed to a spoke on one of the wheels of a giant, hellish steam locomotive driven by Alan Titchmarsh. This is a recurring nightmare for me. I would also hate to die by being force-fed a DFS sofa by Linda Barker. Otherwise, I don't think dying is too bad in and off itself. It seems a perfect way to wind down after a stressful day.......

Worst way to die? - Being sat in front of the 24 hour Big brother feed, with my eyes stitched open and a methamphetamine drip to keep me awake until my brains oozed out of my nostrils to seek sanctuary in oblivion, and my staring, lifeless, vegetative corpse finally starved to death.

I think being buried alive would be pretty grim. Imagine waking up only to find yourself in a coffin 6 feet underground....no use yelling, no use scratching at the lid, no space to move...just lying there waiting for the air to run out

Being smeared in goose fat, tied face down and rogered to death by a busload of old Etonians as John Prescott licks me all over and then vomits the fat into my face in a bout of bulimic guilt. While this happens Janet Street Porter reads Little Women using her vile tones by doing voices and sound effects ....... :gag:

Yes, that sounds like the worst!

I overheard a lady in a restaurant say:" When they brought my salad the lettuce was all brown and wilted. I just can't imagine anything worse!"
I couldn't resist leaning over towards her:"Madam, may I congratulate you on a very fortunate life" (if that was the worst thing she could imagine)
Good to know our members have more imagination!

I used to fear being buried alive. Then I decided to be cremated, so now I fear being burned alive :loopy: at least it'd be a quicker way to go!

My mum told me a pretty gruesome story from her childhood once.

It was a really nice summer where she grew up, so naturally people were outside enjoying the sun and tanning etc.

Anyway, there was a teenage girl who was so obsessed with getting a good tan, she covered herself in oil. She then decided that lying on the roof would be a good way to make the most of the sun. Little did she know that it was a tin roof, which gets extremely hot. She layed down and pretty much stuck to the roof and basically...cooked herself.

She didn't die but I dread to think the amount of pain she must have been in....she'd have probably wanted it to be over.

Sat in a care home vegetating, incontinent and plonked in front of the TV all day, the highlight of your remaining life a occasional visit from family that are just waiting for you to pop your clogs so they can spend the inheritance, sadly a fate that awaits most of us. :(

Fire without doubt. The idea of burning to death petrifies me. Anyone who signs up for the fire service deserves a medal to me - running into a burning building whilst everyone else heads in the other direction. Crazy people but so so brave
