Thing is i have no clue what it means and all the info ive found on the net seems to give different advice. So, can any of you clever people on here help me out with whar could be wrong.
Thanks in advance:)
What games? CD based games or downloaded ones? We need more info on the symptoms of the crashes so we can work out the cause, also what OS? Linux isn't designed for gaming, and problems with Windows XP is why I gave up on PC gaming years ago when I got the Xbox.
Also. if you have the error code, you can look it up on the Microsoft Knowledge Base, on www.microsoft.com.
The Watcher 14-12-2008, 18:54 Its xp pro and both games are disk based ( i dont do downloaded ones).
The games are COD4 and COD5.
I looked on microsofts knowledge base but cant seem to find the exact problem im having.
:)

Update the Grpx driver, and mobo drivers, if its still happening after that it could possibly be a duff PSU, Edit:actually looking over it again, i'd lay bets on an underpowerd PSU, what watt is it?
Edit again:one way to see if its due to stress on the system is run a stress test, prime 95, or similar, might also be worth downloading a motherboard monitor to check temps aren't getting too high.

No problem, your psu is certainley powerful enough, and the temps seem fine. If its when your in the game it could also be direct x?

It sounds like a power supply, or RAM problem,
a blue screen when playing games usually indicates either not enough power getting to your graphics card, CPU or other components, or..
Your Ram,, go to memtest.org, download it, stick it on a CD and boot to that CD then leave the program running for a while (either till its 100%, just over an hour, or you see RED! - Which ever comes first)
If you don't see red, that means no problems with your ram, and its likeley a PSU problem..
Secondly, Its not all about PSU wattage, 1000 watts might sound enough, but it is overkill, its about Ampage and Quality mostly, the 12Volts ampage rating is the most important, my 2 year old 600watt Power supply is running my machine below.
High End Asus Gamers Motherboard (Maximus Extreme)
Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz
ATI Radeon HD3870 x2
ATI Radeon HD3870 Standard
2x SATA HDD's
2x IDE HDD's
2x SATA DVD/RW Drives
4 Case Large Fans
So it just goes to show, its not all about wattage :)

Sorry for the delay in replying.
Ive ran memtest and it came up with no errors so the ram seems to be ok.
I have no concerns about the quality of my psu as its an enermax and is well capable of running the system and a lot more besides. I know the wattage is a little on the overkill side but i got it to leave plenty of room for upgrading.
I had a good look in the case and it was filthy. Dust everywhere. I gave it a good clean and also updated direct x as Bonjon said it may be that thats the problem and im happy to say it seems to have fixed the issue. I got the lad to give it some hammer and do lots of gaming and there hasnt been one bsod.
Fingers crossed its all sorted now but if it starts th happen again ill post back.
Thanks for all the help guys, its much appreciated:thumbsup::)
Dust can cause the problems, I used to advise to check that but people on here kept slating me for it.
Dust = less cooling = more heat = problems. so yea :)
Glad you fixed it any ways. :D

Cheers Ghozer, i didnt realise quite how dusty it had got until i opened it up. Ive seen an 8 degree drop in my temps for my gfx card and a 7 degree drop on my cpu and it also means my fans arent having to work so hard so its much, much quieter too:thumbsup::)
Eric_Collins 18-12-2008, 13:52 When you see dust bunnies bouncing about inside a case always means trouble:hihi:
