View Full Version : Password Recovery
scubatony61 14-12-2008, 15:02 As the title says "Password Recovery".
I recently got my laptop back from repair (he partitioned the drive)and the guy who repaired has put an "Admin" & username password on it.
I have not switched the laptop on since I got it back.
I have now lost the guys telephone number.
Does anybody know how I can get to this password ?
Please help.
Regards
Tony
You could try this if you have a windows xp cd.http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=305

Thiat was the second thing that I tried, but it just goes straight to
Admin "log on"

download a admin password remover and boot the machine up with the disk in.

if its the log on screen, boot in safe mode- control panel then user accounts then change password worked everytime for me or are we on about something different here, accept my apologies if we are :hihi:

I think they are having difficulty gaining access to the OS, as far as I'm aware safemode doesn't bypass the login screen.
Scubdatony - yes but you'll have to make sure you download a memory stick version of the software for it to be bootable.
have you tried using "admin" as a password. some programs use this to start
them running so allowing the end user to change it.
scubatony61 14-12-2008, 16:58 I have tried to log on as normal
I have tried to log on in safe mode
The only thing that I have not done is try "admin", I will let you know.

That should do the trick. Sorry I thought you didn't have any cd or something when you suggested your memory stick!

have you tried googling 'ultimate boot cd' (or it might be ultimate boot disk)
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html
I had noticed the above wasn't working.
But there are loads of mirrors on bottom of:
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html
e.g. (This needs Winrar to unzip)
http://nbicomputers.com/Downloads/ubcd411iso.rar

I can not get past the log on screen in safe mode

First one goes to a blank page
Second one does not do password recovery

Just tried this still no joy.
ladyacademic 20-12-2008, 10:29 Look, I know it's asking the obvious, but can't you just ring the chap who did the repair and ask him what he set the password to?

I would have done this at first if I still had his number
Thanks for your input anyway
ladyacademic 20-12-2008, 12:05 It might be easier to find his phone number than the password! Can you not call in to the place where you took it for repair and ask?
The ultimate boot CD is your best bet really.
you download the .iso, burn it to a CD (on any PC) then put it in the other machine, boot to it.
once booted... one of the "tools" is Windows XP Password removal/change/recovery.

Draggletail 12-02-2009, 18:33 Just come across this site - should do the trick if you use XP or Vista.
