ps thinking of moving to the eastwood area but do not know what the area is like.
jojojoanna1 04-06-2005, 20:19 eastwood is close to town but depends what end of east wood , you may have to catch a bus , if you try places like kimberworth , droppingwell, blackburn then you will be close to meadowhall, some parts of eastwood are quite rough you should head towards clifton , its next to eastwood but a much nicer area , its also within walking distance of the town center

metalman 04-06-2005, 21:20 Last time I went to Rotherham I thought the town centre couldn't get any worse, but when I went today I found it had proved me wrong. One of the few places I know where pedestrianising a street has caused all the shops to close down. I caught a bus from Meadowhall that went via Templeborough and that seemed an even more depressing route than the one through Kimberworth, which is saying something.
I get the impression that Rotherham council tries hard, and their development corporation (RIDA or something like that) seems more keen than Sheffield's, but at the same time you get the feeling they're inexorably fighting a losing battle.

http://www.rotherham.gov.uk/graphics/Visiting/ i think this is a better discription if not an untruthful one as it is written by rotherham council. The others on here are eyewitness accounts by people with nothing to lose or gain from what they say. Please think it through. I like the bottom picture of the gang of nobbly knee'd white guys about to lynch the camera man simply because he was black.

i carn't make up my mind to live on the rotherham border near meadowhall which is surpost to be nice or to live on the sheffield side which has rough areas like tinsley and wincobank i thought of eastwood because it's got the x78 busroute from sheffield to doncaster 23 mins from sheffield city on bus 14 from meadowhall 35 from doncaster 5 from parkgate retail world and 5 from rotherham town centre which the only thing i would go to rotherham town centre for is the bus station to catch a bus to the city centre.
Rotherham Population 249,500
i never realised that rotherham was so big it's half the size of sheffield.
I used to live in Rotherham, in an area called Broom to be precise. I found it to be a lovely place and much cheaper than Sheffield.
Every town or city has its good and bad areas. I was lucky in that a friend from work saw the flat up for rent and assured me the area was decent.
However, the city center was run down with few interesting shops. I used to do all my shopping in Meadowhall.

Quote from Dylan_61 from another thread which may be of interest to you:

There are some truly terrible places in England as seen in the Idler books 'Crap Towns' and 'Crap Towns 2' I've been to most places in England and studied human geography at Uni so have built up a reasonable picture of the state of England.
I would be interested to know where people consider the arm pit of England to be and why
I haven't been anywhere as truly destitute as Grimethorpe, but it would be a bit unfair to pick somewhere that was solely dependent upon a closed staple industry.
So I have therefore gone for Rotherham (I'm not from Sheffield so I don't have any particular ingrained dislike for the place).
It's by far the ****test place I've ever seen. The only form of entertainment for women is getting a fake tan, having their hair colour changed and / or having their nails manicured. For men it's pubs and bookies. I went to Rotherham a few weeks ago to meet someone; because I turned up early I decided to walk around the 'art gallery'. It contained one painting!!!! At least Barnsley MBC owns a Canaletto.
People look older than the age suggests they should look. There are acres and acres of people whose features have been hideously deformed by hyper obesity. Self neglect is rampant, people who consider exercise a part of every day life are described as 'freaks'
In the case of Rotherham, people most certainly make places as opposed to places making people (for the sociologist amongst you)
Kimberworth would be ideal if you work at Meadowhall.
I have lived in Kimberworth for the last 8 years and have found it a great place to live.
It has good bus routes to meadowhall - it is a nice walk if the weathers fine although hard going on the way back (mostly uphill).
It also has good pubs, health club, super bowl, ice rink, golf course, nice parks and woodland areas, co-op and other local shops.
The top end of Kimberworth (near Upper Wortley Rd)is a better area than the bottom end (near Meadowbank Road)
is kimberworth as bad as eastwood?
please let me know

kimberworth i s a great place tp live
i don't know now heard good stuff about blackburn but am worried about the noise level from the close proxminity of the m1 but is at the side of concord park.
Gingerbarf 05-06-2005, 17:01 i live in Brinsworth which is ten min from Meadowhall, it's generally i nice place!!
Brinsworth, Broom, Whiston are the three best places in rotherham if you need access to meadowhall as well.
there's other area's with easier access but not as nice..
Brinsworth there's busses every 20 min but Broom & Whiston i think they're hourly?
is brinsworth at the side of tinsley or am i thinking of another place.
please let me know.
Advent,
Kimberworth is nothing like Eastwood to be honest.
Eastwood is one of the most socially deprived areas in Rotherham.
Housing whether buying or renting is far cheaper in Eastwood but Kimberworth is a much better area to live (not being snobby when I say that)
Not sure about Blackburn but I wouldn't think there was much opportunity to buy or rent as it is only a small area.
The junior school there has a good reputation if that helps.
thank's for the info john66 but just wondering if there are any nice areas sourrounding eastwood because it sounds like it is the wright location but just a rough area but i am sure that it can't be as bad as the manor or woodthorpe estates where i live now. just want a fresh start as far away from the manor and woodthorpe as possible.
if you have any more information please post it in the forum and i will post you back with my opinion.
thanks a lot
advent.
