We went to Flaming Dragon this afternoon. £5.90 for weekend afternoon buffet. The soup was great but the choice of dishes wasnt that good. The temperature of the food was a little tepid as well. But as they say you never eat at a bad resturant twice!!!

The selection of food available after 6pm is miles better than in the afternoon and easily worth the extra fiver. Also, try to avoid 4.30-6.00 because they are winding down in preparation for the evening 'session'.

I really like the place. Good value and nice food (after 6.00) and really efficient staff too.

Blimming heck what do you want for a fiver? Of course some of it might be a tad tepid, it's an all you can eat buffet!

Thank you everyone who suggested flamming dragon for somewhere to eat for my sons birthday. We went last night and it was brill, the food was spot on and my teenagers tried everything from sushi to little jelly pots. Loads and loads of dishes all hot, and even plenty of deserts!!! cost us £50 including drinks for 4? And kyle has been nicknamed billy 5 plates!!! Well worth a visit and will defo go again!! (small complaint tho "TOO MUCH TO CHOOSE FROM") :hihi:

We went yesterday lunchtime. Out of the choices of Wokmania, Jumbos and No1, this is the best. With it being a lunchtime, it was cheaper than your visit - under £20 for 2 kids and 2 adults.

Only criticism, they could do with a second entrance door as every time someone came in, a blast of cold air came down the eating area.

Other than that, very good. Very clean. Most food was hot. The staff were very pleasant. We're looking at it as an eating place for a children's party later in the year - it passed our criteria.

Didn't go on a Sat, but a Sunday evening and I can definitely recommend it. It's so much cheaper than the places in town, and i'd compare it most to Jumbos re quality of food (that's a good thing) but less cramped with a lot more decor and speed of replenishing food.

I'd definitely advise trying the random things that get brought over to your table, always something new, and the sushi is to DIE FOR! :D

My only qualm is if you're not very observative after acquiring a full belly, is to watch what they card machine's display staes if paying by card at the end of the meal, the waitress we had just handed it me, and of course I started to enter my pin- luckily I realised just in time before a £20 meal turned into something scarily more expensive!!!

Went there for lunch on saturday, me, fella, 4 year old and parents, cost about 30 quid for the lot of us and drinks, (plus a couple of pints). Food was great, the place looked fantastic and was very VERY impressed by the Tepanyaki, that's what made it stand out for me, they cook a heap of prawns for you on it and you can watch the man do it. Much preferred it over the ones in town, and for the price can't go wrong.

Hi Tess

What time do they start with the tepanyaki? We have been for the last 3 Saturday lunchtimes, and really like it, but haven't seen this on offer. We get there as soon as it opens at 12 o clock.

We went about 12:45 and they were doing it then - maybe it's not every weekend? The prawns are delicious!

Hey,

Has anyone else been to Flaming Dragon at Centertainment? I went the other night and LOVED it, great food- amazing price plus they do student discount too. I think it was much much better than the other Chinese buffet restaurants we have in town- i've been to most of them and wasn't impressed. There is loads to choose from at Flaming Dragon and the food was all nice and hot (which makes a change, coz a few others I have been to have all had probs with this!) Would recommend it to anyone.

But was it better than Jumbo?
I think not.
At least Jumbo caters for people of other backgrounds.
Flaming Background does NOT

Example: Jumbo at least makes an effort to serve Halal Chicken.

You have to remember that sheffield has a LARGE muslim population. What harm would it do to serve halal chicken at least?
If the chicken is halal, then everyone would be able to eat it.

At valley centretainment even the NANDO's and SUBWAY are Halal. They should take a leaf out of their book.

MuteWitness

Then you could argue that ALL establishments must serve halal chicken, granted a disk or two that was halal wouldn't be a major headache for them but there is plenty of vegetarian options available.

If Jumbo can serve halal chicken then why cant flaming Dragon follow suit???

Halal chicken from adams cash and carry doesnt cost anymore.
Im not asking them to take the pork off the menu or even to get hold of Halal Beef or Duck just the chicken!!!

I'm not sure about the halal meat thing- you would have to ask the restaurant itself. I much prefered it to Jumbo as Flaming Dragon's food wasn't cold, greasy and there was more variety. They also do teppenyaki where you choose your own food and they cook it for you there and then, kinda like a stir fry :) Think my work is going to book our Christmas party there- its cheap and the food is yummy.

Myself and a friend are thinking of going there at some point soon and I wondered whether the food was still as nice as everyone said it was when it first opened.

I have been five or six times. I love the atmosphere and the food. The staff are really friendly and efficient too. The choice during the day is not as wide as it is in the evening, but then it is more expensive at night. I love the curly whirly ice cream too with the syrup on that is found next to the banana and apple fritters!:D

Guess it depends on what you are looking for / used to.......... Flaming Dragon has choice, is relatively inexpensive and gets very busy. Probably one of the better "eat as much as you can" places - I m just not that fond of that kind of experience.

I am selective about what I eat there as I don't think the quality of everything is fantastic - nor the authenticity. ........ not the kind of place to really impress someone with but good option for suiting lots of people (we went on a work do and there was something for everyone).

mikeybaby72 and me went there this afternoon.....lovely decor....lovely food.

We usually go to Jumbo...and I do admit they have won me over with their chilli prawns - which FD don't appear to do....but just fancied a change.

The minced beef soup was lovely. The bit where you gather raw stuff and they cook it for you was good too. And the Beef in Black bean sauce was to die for....it just fell apart like butter.

All in all a good experience....we will be going back....just wished they did chilli prawns :hihi:

If you want to eat plenty of cold low quality food and if you don't mind seeing people picking up food with their fingers and eating it as they walk round the food display and people going back with dirty used plates and kids helping themselves then putting it back after being in and out of the toilets and quantity not quality then give this place a try

I went and it was awful. I should have known better, like someone else said, what do you expect for £6. I wasn't expecting top nosh but I thought from some of the reviews it would have faired better than other buffet style Chinese restaurants. Every thing was really salty, even the beer, the sauces had a thick skin on and were gloopy. Never again. I rather pay more and have something decent. Thing is, two of us went and we had one drink each and it came to £17.00. We could have gone to Pho on London Road and had a far bettter meal for £5.80 each including drink.

However was there the other night and i overheard (no i wasn't being nosey but if you've been you'll know how easy it is to overhear people on the table on top of yours :hihi: ) a conversation between a guy and his missus.

He was moaning about the lack of quality in the food :loopy:

Number 1 it is an all you can eat restaurant not a michelin star joint

Number 2 have you ever eaten food of michelin star quality? You're saggy face and beer gut tells me that you probably haven't

Number 3 the amount of full tables and the number of people being turned away suggests that most of sheffield likes the food and dining experience there

Number 4 It is an award winning place so someone else likes it too!

If you don't like it, stop taking up the tables for those of us that do!

last saturday my 13year old daughter and her 2 friends headed off for lunch at the sfd table booked and hair done it was a treat they were so looking forward to a girly day, lunch and then meadowhall.they paid up front as requested each paid individually my daughter only had a 20 pound note so asked the waitress if that was ok the waitress came back with 4 pound change, my daughter said this was incorrect and after a few babbled words from the waitress off she went to get a colleague he was very abrupt and said that he would give her the other 10 pound and that they would check cctv and if she was found to be lying they would phone the police, of course this caused her great distress they rushed to eat there meal and went, one of the girls went home 2 hours later after being sick . I contacted the manager and after speaking to him he said he would investigate , he called me 2 days later but i was at work .I then called him several times but he did not return my call I managed to speak to him a week later after being told he was too busy to discuss it with me. He basically told me that my daughter and her friends were lying and that all customers are treat the same they were also only given water to drink and dare not ask for coke . I asked for the head office contact details but was told he could not give them to me i have also been on the website and tried to contact the pr department and it is impossible , is there any redress?

hi grumpy. Everytime we go there they always seem to be funny with the young un's, like you said they make em pay up first before eating, probably in fear of them doing a runner but i think thats wrong. If i was you id pay them a little visit and make a stance. They should'nt treat kids the way they treated your daughter, after all her money is just as good as anybody else's. good luck

Ugh, this is exactly why 13 year olds shouldn't be able to go to restaurants of this kind unaccompanied by somebody of a more responsible age.

If she is too scared to order a Coke do you really think she's old enough to be going without an adult?

We went 3 weeks ago and have to agree. Very poor.
I suppose the problem is that it's catering for people who just want to fill their faces for the cheapest amount and don't really care about the quality.
Oh, and it was the worst crispy duck, and easily the worst sushi I've ever had.

I agree, been once and won't go again. The beef dishes were truly awful, the beef was either beef substitute or had been injected with jelly, nasty.

I went here months ago and will never go back....I got really bad food poisoning. Went at a bad time tho as we went at 6pm and the food had probably been sitting around since lunchtime. :(

I've only been to hear and number one in town and would say that flaming dragon is definitely the worst. Everything tastes the same.

Although they do have a fruit volcano; yes, a volcano made of fruit!! Surely this makes up for eating the same dish from ten different trays?

I've personally picked to go there tonight because i like chinese buffets and its looks really nice, you cant judge on a mixed reviewed post as your taste is different and the only way to know whether or not you'll enjoy it is by going and trying it :) if its bad i wont go back. Simple.

I enjoyed it the first time I went but the second time wasn't so good.

I do love chinese food though and that's what makes me want to go back.

We have got 2 for 1 vouchers for the Handmade Burger Co so might try there :).

I've been there a couple of times and the spread is pretty bland and the larger is awful. Not sure where is good to eat on centretainment now. Handmade burger co is ok but nothing special.

It's not bad for people who like cheap food and can pile it high, who have no idea what quality food is... if this sounds like you then you will love it. Infact almost everyone on Sheff forum sounds like this... as long as there is loads of food and it's cheap, then im in. Most people on this forum are not interested in quality, just interested in how cheap it is.

I personally dont think £2.60 for a glass of coke and £13 entry is cheap...

I think it depends on occasion. Whilst I wouldn't go there for an anniversary or birthday meal, I would go there for some nosh before the cinema, or just to have a catch up with my friends. Doesn't mean I don't have taste ;)

That is exactly what we do.

It's just more convenient to get something to eat there and go straight to the cinema. And that is the reason why they can charge so much - it's convenience food.

It isn't the greatest but I wouldn't say it's terribly poor.

I went on a Saturday and it was packed, you had to push to get near the food and the queues of people made it really slow to get to a dish that you wanted. I didn't think it was any better than other Chinese buffets and quality wasn't that good. Guess being that busy shows how popular it is but I wouldn't hurry to go again.

Ive been a few times, and unlike some of the 'snobs', I do eat at rather expensive resteraunts, but this is great as a 'last minute' thing or as some say just before the cinema/concert. Thought the food was great, the beer is typically like most resteraunts, like water, but all in all, not a bad place and will be going again.

Stop being so snobbish and trying to make yourselfs sound posher than you are. You live in Sheffield for god sake

I like Flaming Dragon, however for just a couple of quid more I have to recommend going to Wong Ting on Matilda Street off The Moor where you can have a nice sit down meal, eat all you want, and its brought out fresh to your table.

Flaming dragon has gone down hill in my eye's! used to be great, but now the prices have gone stupidly expensive AND also did you know they fill the dishes up with loads of oil to bulk the dish out and making you get full faster!! jumbo in town also do it!!

I agree. We were going to go the other day prior to going to the cinema but as it was now £12.99 each plus the overpriced drinks on top of that, we decided to give it a miss. Pity because we used to like it but now i think it's overpriced for what it is.

I know it's still not too bad for a sit down meal but the price is now in the range of other, better restaurants so they may lose out to them.

We usually go at lunch time when me and the wife get a day together and it's not too busy then.

Food seems ok the only problem I have is that everytime we go the coke seem really weak, almost like water.

Other than that it's not too bad bearing in mind the type of restaurant it is.

Jumbo's have the cheek to get you to pay for your meal before! Like paying for your petrol in case you drive off...really annoying. Well that extra drink and extra coffee I was gonna order...I didn't cos I couldn't be bothered to pay for it again. Also got charge 10.99per head for my >9yrs kids (just) who ate like birds anyway.
Nice food, but rude staff, overpriced for kids and paying upfront goes down like a lead balloon

You can't beat Noodle Inn on London Rd. You get a massive plate of your choice of noodle or rice topped with whatever dish you fancy. The crispy pork is to die for and all for less than a tenner freshly prepared.

As you seem to know an awful lot about chinese restaurants maybe you could enlighten us as where you would recommend as I always seem to pick the wrong one.
