Just heard that Hallam FM Breakfast LEGEND Daryl Denham is returning home to Hallam FM.

Sadly its only Saturday's 10am-2pm but its better than nothing, and great to have such a awesome DJ back in Sheffield where he belongs!

Saturday 18th June - 10am - Daryl Returns!

Ugh I can't stand him!

They've been carting him around the EMAP stations for a few years now, with a few breaks in between. And I think he's recently been back on Century FM. I've had to endure him on Century 100.7, Metro Radio and TFM over the past few years, and I really can't stand him.

Sarah Cox and Daryl are the only two people I turn off when I hear on the radio, I can't stand either of them!

come on tell us what you really think ;)

If you don't like him fair enough, but I have to say other than cover work (that I haven't heard about) since leaving Hallam, hes been on 100.7 Heart FM in Birmingham, Virgin Radio, and recently as you rightly say, 101 Century FM

He's certainly been doing shows in and around the north-east on various radio stations over the past few years, although since I'm not from Sheffield I don't know he left Hallam.

He did the breakfast show on TFM for a while, when I was 13/14 and then they shipped him into the evenings, where he lasted of all about 4 weeks. Then they brought some idiot called Gregg Upwards up north, if I ever heard him again I'd smash up my radio once and for all. He got sacked from TFM for reasons which I still can't go into, damn my NDA >_<

And then he did a stint on metro for a while, but I suspect that was just covering other presenters while he was on the air.

I may have my exact dates a little bit muddled... I'm not the best person in the world with remember times and dates! Especially when they're a few years in the past!

Why did you have to endure him? did your radio only recieve one station and not have an "off" button?

Anyway the more important question is, does anyome remember the X-rated show he did, and will it be returning? :heyhey:

As stated above I turn the radio off whenever he's on. But when he was on Century and TFM he seemed to do all the ramps for other shows, and do all the voiceovers for any of the adverts for anything vaguely related to the station.

I used to hate accidentally tuning into his show. I don't really listen to Hallam FM anyway, can't stand it... but I certainly won't be listening to Mr. Denham!

Isn't this the show Dixie does at the minute?

If so, what's happening to him? :s

Toby Foster is a back on BBC Radio Sheffield on Saturday afternoons for the next 11 weeks in addition to his regular daily morning show.

Now there's a presenter with a national profile for you!!

No idea, but I doub't they will get rid of him. He does breakfast on a Hallam sister station in Preston - Rock FM.

Could quite possibly be networked like Mike Toolan's Breakfast Show is on a Sunday allowing Daryl full coverage over the Emap stations.

actually, Hallam FM is back on the up according to figures. True it went downhill after a lot of the big guns left (Daryl, Anthony Gay, Emma Scott, Scottie McClue) but it is getting better.

One thing many people seem to miss is that Hallam is a CHR radio station, which means primarily, they play current chart music. Its a station aimed at a younger audience (though not as young as Galaxy).

The Radio Hallam days may have been good, but at the time, Radio Hallam WAS commercial radio for South Yorkshire, and catering for every radio listener.

Now today, they have Galaxy on one side, and Real Radio/dearne/peak/trax on the other. If you don't want chart music, try a station aiming for your age group/music taste.

Another thing forgotten, is what COMMERCIAL radio actually means. It's a business. It's there to make money, and as much as possible. If they go too bland, they lose the audience, and make less money, so its a balancing act.

This coupled with my first points, means Hallam now caters for a select audience in order to get most revenue. There are plenty of other stations in the area that play other music genres.

You might not like Hallam as much now, but it is a HIGHLY successful station with a large audience, and is on the up.

I'd also point out that if you listened to local stations in Nottingham and Leicester, you might realise how much better Hallam is. They do have quite a few specialist music shows even today.

Anyway, rant over...

Toolan's Sunday Breakfast is being dropped, mainly because its a bit crap I think(!) so that will be another locally presented show for one of the DJ's (Dixie?)

I think these radio shows are as good as they ever were, its just us that are getting older. They dont change, we do!

I started listening to Radio 1 then switched to Metro and TFM in the North East.

When I moved here it was Hallam and then Kiss/Galaxy, Ive had a brief flirt with Radio 2 and a year or two of Talk Radio before it became Talk sport (used to enjoy Scott Chisholme and Tommy Boyd).

Now I mainly have Radio Sheffield on and Radio 4.

The radio is the same Im just older, and more grown up/ boring. ...delete as applicable.

I'm glad to see that he'll be returning although i do feel Big John at breakfast has generally improved and i now enjoy listening to him.

I always though Daryl D has gone upwards since leaving Hallam and i'm sure someone had mentioned he'd joined someone like Virgin. Maybe i'm wrong looking at some of the previous posts.

I imagine it'll be as Totleytunnel stated with Daryl covering many of the radio stations

I'm pretty sure he did actually work for Virgin... because my aunt listens to it and she said she hated him... he used to be ace, but apperently he couldn't get away with half the stuff he did on a local station which made him a little more bland...

his late night show used to be absolutly amazing, some seriously funny stuff... I too also own one of his best of CD's somewhere... I think theres actually about 4 of them he made... I was sad to see him leave Hallam :( now I rarely listen to the radio... own too many CD's lol

After leaving Hallam...

He moved to 100.7 Heart FM in the west mids. Then he did go to Virgin, on drive time, before moving swiftly onto Breakfast. Apparently the show was too "laddish" and after a bit got relegated to weekend breakfast, and eventually booted.

He ended up on 101 Century FM in the north east, but didn't last very long before citing personal problems with having family in london. About a week after leaving he started PodShows.com .

Next I heard was when I posted this thread - that hes coming back to hallam :D

Heard Denham for 1/2 hour this morning, Jimmy Carrol on BBC Radio Sheffield is still and will remain " King of Sat Morns " Denham has certainly been shipped around the stations. Reason ???????
