How many season ticket holders are there in all?

was going to start a thread about this. i couldnt believe it when i heard this. fair enough if there was a couple of hundred that didnt, they might of had to work or had other commitments but 3k, that is just abysmal. they should be ashamed really. its strange though, i was sitting in the kop and compared to the plymouth game i thought it wasnt so empty.
was going to ask aswell, what sort of numbers do we take to matches in london usually? it just seems london teams never bring many fans, i guess there was around 100 qpr fans at most

how many attended the game?.

NERVY-OWL
11-12-2008, 13:26
around 14700 i think, if season ticket holders had turned up there would of been over 18k, an improvement seems there werent many qpr fans

thought so, guess the site is right. if we had got over 18k it wouldnt of surprised me though, before i heard about the season ticket holders, did seem more than usual on kop anyway

It was a spokesman from SWFC that was on the radio this morning thats why my ears pricked up, he was saying they were very concerned at the lack of season ticket holders turning up. We dont want them going same way as Woollies, Hillsborough would be in a poor state.

NERVY-OWL
11-12-2008, 14:07
the good thing i suppose is that they have paid so the club dont lose out like they would a paying fan but i wonder how much of an effect it has on the players. just thought, was it 3k season tickets missing from that match or just in general? it seems far too high for just 1 match tbh but i cant remember exactly what was said

alex3659
11-12-2008, 14:13
might be three thousand all season , surely not one game .

harriett
11-12-2008, 14:16
The spokesman was referencing the QPR match

if that's the case , there is plenty to worry about .

NERVY-OWL

very strange then. i'm not even sure on season ticket sales but i was hearing around 3/4k, if thats true i cant see why nearly all holders would all miss the 1 game

Probably in protest at the shambolic way the club is being run at the moment. Either that or it was too cold!

Yes 14,792 the lowest league crowd since.....well even I can't remember without searching it !
The club are actually getting concerned apparently ????????????
Well as I have said before, probably on this forum, the club shot itself in the foot big time last May when they increased the ticket prices, whilst still being in danger of getting relegated, with the onset of the credit crunch, and the way many Owls fans felt about the way the club was being run !
Tuesday was a very cold night, we have another home game this Saturday and are 2 weeks off Christmas, the loss of season ticket holders is starting to bite, let's hope the club do the right thing for next season and reduce ticket prices cos it's gonna be a tough year or so financially for many people and businesses !!!
Wakey Wakey Wednesday !!!

canadablade has been saddened by the passing away of a fellow poster on here, see top thread re tosh13, as a mark of respect there has been a lull in the banter, I hope this continues for a few more days at least.
Anyway back to the topic, it looks like the penny has actually dropped at SWFC.

The drop in attendances this season is very worrying and I think the club are facing the consequences of constantly rising the prices in the assumption that fans will keep coming back.

As for season ticket holders not turning up on Tuesday, is very worrying and it would be interesting to know why some stayed at home. It is two weeks before xmas and we have a game at home on Saturday, so it's probably a combination of people feeling broke and not wanting to travel twice in a week, for a couple of mid-table clashes.

The club have been a long way behind for a long time in reaching out to new fans. I've thought for a long time at how frustrating it is that, in a city that has so many students, Wednesday do so little to entice them to S6. Sadly the other lot are much sharper on this front and have their student nights, which are well promoted at both unis. There's real potential to pull in students on the cheap and get them coming back in the long term.

Prehaps the penny has dropped and they could not bear to go to Hillsborough.

And who can blame them, the sooner it is pulled down, purified with salt and something useful like a day centre for professional benefit claimants the better

It will have been a number of things, we're hardly playing great football, so on a freezing cold night, some people probably would have rather stayed in.

Others may have been working late, couldn't attend due to time it takes to travel (a few season ticket holders live outside of sheffield, so can't attend midweek matches) and the rest probably ended up going out christmas shopping instead.

It sounds like we've sold just over 11,000 season tickets this year, which imo is more of a worry than how many choose to turn up once they've bought their season ticket.

You can fool some of the people all of the time.

You can fool all of the people some of the time.

But you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

Yes the penny might have finally dropped, the only message left to send to the board is a show from folk who have paid their money in advance, but still have strong principles.

The abysmal running of the club for the last decade has come to a head, which is why the fans are staying away.

Firstly, season ticket numbers have fallen, after our years of loyalty were rewarded by huge price hikes for the last two years, and the fans who didn't buy one don't want to pay £28 on the gate.

Secondly, a lot of those who did buy season tickets are still staying away for many of the less attractive games, because frankly the football served up by the team has for a large part of the season been bloody awful. Ironically we're having the best home record for many years, but the entertainment value has generally been shocking. Even in some games that we've won, such as QPR, Doncaster, first half against Norwich, we've been atrocious.

Totally agree.

We've had the best start to a season for years.

But overall, the combined football played both by Wednesday and the teams we've played against, has been of the lowest level of quality and entertainment I've ever seen.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather see us win, but I would also like to see us entertained, so (to a certain degree) I can understand some people staying away for some games, even if they have already paid.

With the financial situation and the squad we have at the moment i don't care if we play like a pub team,3 pts are all that's important until we get some money in the club
10th in the league, will take that

Absolutely, we'll all be happy to take a scrappy win and the 3 points.

But it's not going to bring the fans back. Take the other night for example, it was an absolutely awful game, below freezing, Christmas on the way, and with Champions League football on the telly. I was there, I haven't missed a home game voluntarily in 28 years, but there are plenty of people who even though they'd take the win, know that paying up to £28 on the gate to watch a game like that just isn't worth it. If you were told beforehand that you'd have to sit freezing for 90 minutes watching absolute garbage and we'd eventually win 1-0 with a scrappy goal but it'd cost you £28 for the privilege (or nearly £100 for a family of 4), would you see that as value for money? Plenty wouldn't.

If we were playing attractive football and involved in entertaining games week in week out, the fans would come. As it is, they know they're not going to be getting value for money.

I still can;t belive that they can charge £28 for a game like QPR midweek near xmas, whoever is running the pricing structure at SWFC needs his head looking at.

Its basic business and there getting it horribly wrong.

Totally agree with ya mate, but with the squad we have at the moment we aren't going to see the beautiful game and the lads are playing to their standards, the problem is that we have been spoilt by watching the likes of Waddle,Hirst,Walker,Sheridan ect and Owls need to face up to the fact that the current crop are battling their arses off and playing the best that they can

All the hassle us Blades got for incentivizing students and kids to go to matches as well as our Blades Day offers 4 times a season of £10 a ticket seem to look a little silly now.

The Pigs board presume fans will turn up whatever the price but some Wendies seem to have grown some b******s and are finally saying no, they won't accept the treatment from the current board.

I see Kevan Walker is putting on a brave front and has suddenly become a man of the people.

Well i think the crowd was even lower today. It is really concerning that such a large number of people who have paid for their tickets are not turning up. Crowds are dropping all way round the country but it is a bigger concern that season ticket holders are not turning up.

Wednesday overpriced to start with and its biting them now. The next problem is that Weds know this and are starting with ticket incentives which is great for many but I know some season ticket holders are unhappy as they dont benefit.

To be honest, football as a whole is going down the pan. But clubs look for blame evreywhere rather than realising that fans are paying too much to watch their team both at the ground and on TV. Players are paid way too much and the premiership shows no sign of slowing, the last stupid rumour was 1 million a month for Buffon!!
