Anyone here who was in the 1st Sheffield Girls Life Brigade, based at Gleadless Congregational Church at the bottom of Gleadless Common. Our captain was Miss Law and the officers were Miss Murray and Mrs Clark. The Whitsuntide parades were a great highlight of the year when we used to march around the streets and sing hymns, then on Whit Sunday we paraded right down Hollinsend Road, up Mansfield Road and back down Ridgeway Road, linking up with parades from the other churches on the way, then into the park where we sang. I carried the flag for our company.
