Has anyone read the story today about that woman in Wales who has won 12.8 million on the lottery and says that she would just like to be normal and get back to her checkout ASAP?

Two points I would like to raise on this:

1. Why did she bother playing the lottery in the first place, when she obviously didn't want to change anything about her life?.

2. How selfish is she keeping her job when it could go to someone who needs it far more?

These people so annoy me. I think you should not play the lottery if you aren't going to give your low paid job up if you have a very big win.

Perhaps her reasons for working in her current job are not monetary?

It might surprise you to find out how many people enjoy working for other reasons.

I think I would keep working, in some way, I'd get bored otherwise.

I understand that people may enjoy the company etc and may get bored without the daily work routine, but if so, why couldn't they do some voluntary charity work or something like that? rather than pinch a needy persons wages.

I can understand wanting to keep an interest up... like a business or something but jesus if your gonna keep your same old job, the same grind day in day out - I'm with owl74 you really should be banned from playing cos its a waste of prize money :o

Most people would stay on at work after winning the lottery ;) trust me its not fun winning it :P and we are not pinching peoples money when its our job to start of with.

If she's gone public, I wonder how many of her work mates will still want her there? I bet she leaves in the end not because she doesn't have to work anymore but because her peers treat her differently.

Oh the burden of ownership!

(perhaps I should offer to take her burden from her...least I could do for the lass!)

So then Jon, how much did you win on the lottery and what job didn't you give up?

Miaowwww........it takes all sorts..........and what right does anybody have to dictate what anybody spends their money on?? So what if somebody enjoys having a flutter on the lotto and just happens to win millions of money?? What they do with it is their business......and if they decide to carry on working...well that is their business as well!! Just because somebody wins mega bucks does not mean that they have to alter their lives! Not everybody hates their jobs ya know!
Anyhow........it has been a very hectic week here.......what with all the champagne corks popping all over.............ahhhh.....christenings....dont you love em. lo

Maybe she wants to give the money away to family, charity or whatever, and keep some normality in her life? Dunno. Maybe she never expected to win such a huge amount, and thus never planned what to with her life if she did win big time?

i dont agree with whats been said about giving up her job for someone who needs the money, there are plenty of checkout jobs out there for people but they just dont want to work!

as for not spending the money its up to her, a lot of people are too scared to spend it incase it changes them, there is a couple that won who have only bought a new car and had a holiday with it. the car was a normal family car and the holiday was a caravan holiday in Britain they won a good few million too.

i am interested to know if you think people who have already won the jackpot should be allowed to continue playing the lottery as many of them do!

i agree with the working thing. Theres only so many shopping trips, holidays, cars etc you can buy before you get bored of it. Keeping her job would keep you busy, maybe she has a lot of friends where she works? Good luck to her i say!!!! she is a simple person doing what she wants to do, and who are we to tell her any different!!

I can't see why anyone would keep the same job. By all means do voluntary work or even quit your job and pop in whenever you want to help out. Working with all the restrictions of a paid job isn't fun for anyone. I wonder if she realises she will earn nearly half a million interest a year?

I think she's very wise to keep her job for the time being. A great deal of most people's social contact and community is at work, especially if you work at a checkout. If she enjoys meeting mums out on shopping trips and feels an affinity with them, then she has every right to remain.

I wish people would think a bit more deeply about having wealth or fame. It is a curse as much as a prize. There are many depressed and unhappy wealthy people, it isn't a magic pill, just 'cause you are able pay your bills on time.

I personally would keep my job but I would try to come to an arrangement where I could work less hours, maybe 3 days a week. Especially as currently I have several projects at home which I haven't got time or energy to finish.

I think I spy the green eyed lottery monster, if I'm not mistaken?

What business is it of yours if she chooses to keep working? What business of yours is it what she chooses to do with it? I'm pretty sure that if it was you in that position, you would resent others trying to dictate your life, so don't do it to others.

I sometimes think people go out looking for things to moan about!

If I won the lottery, I would work my three month notice as not to let other people down at work.

But after I had worked my notice I'll be happy to leave my job, as I have plenty of better things I would love to do to fill my time.

I would like to set up my own company, as I have always wanted to work for myself.

Now all I need to do is buy a ticket and WIN...yeah right

As for the checkout lady, I think she is right to keep herself grounded and if she wants to keep on working why not.

I actually hardly ever play the lottery so can't really be described as a green eyed lottery monster.

The very fact that the article was about the woman going back to work says to me that it is something a lot of people wouldn't do and find quite surprising.

You are right it is her business what she does, but this doesn't stop people from having an opinion.

Is it a good view from your high horse spiffymonkey?

We're getting rather bitchy now aren't we?

I have to confess, I agree. I'd like to say i'd go and find volountary work, and if I didn't have social ties I would. But if I had social ties where I worked, I'd continue to work there.

I think it's a good idea to keep yourself grounded by doing a simple job, it would help to stop you losing it! Money can do weird things to people.

I say good on her that she's not going to just win a load of money and then put her feet up and do nothinhg - people would complain if she didn't do anything but could afford everything!

As for giving money away to charity, it's something I'd love to do if I won but don't know if I would as half of it goes to the tax man anyway, you can't give money to charity anymore

If I won that amount I wouldn't stay in paid work for obvious reasons but I would volunteer my time to some worthy cause.

I would resign immediately. But thats because my job is intolerable :) I would probably do voluntary work or start my own business with the money.

If I won millions on the lottery I don't think I would tell ANYONE! I would tell them all I won a few grand. I would try and anonomously pay off my sister and boyfriends student debts and overdrafts and then stash the rest away. Do you think you could do that or would they know it was you?

I'd keep my job, and don't see anybody here has the right to question her choice to keep her job either.

As much as you reckon other people have a right to her job, EVERYBODY has a right to her job, and it's already her job. You can't sack somebody for having money, it's against the law, so why should she have to leave?

I think if I won £12.8 million on the loto I wouldn't put anymore Saturday mornings in.....

Seriously though folks....I’d step aside and let someone else take my job.....I’d do voluntary work.
