After 66 consecutive top 20 hits,Madonna's latest single has failed miserably-reaching number 39-and it's not that bad a song.Is she on her way out or will she be back?

I'm sick of the sight of her clopper in every video being thrust towards me in HD widescreen

Me too. Just because her body appears younger than her actual age doesn't mean we want to see any granny flesh. :gag:

I doubt any of you lot will leave behind a legacy like hers when you're gone. Food for thought ey? ;)

Love or hate her, you can't deny the impact she's had on the music scene. The woman is an absolute phenomenon.

To the OP, Delia Smith made a Souffle that didn't rise - does that mean she's a crap cook and that she should hang up her pinny thingy?

Are you always this harsh a crtitic? If you fail at one thing, does that mean you're finished?

When Paul McCartney was constantly asked 'Are the Beatles reforming' back in the early 1970s, his reply was 'You can't re-heat a souffle.' Work that one out!!

To be fair, the OP is simply asking whether Madge's chart-topping days are over. No one can question her success and impact on modern music. Madonna and MTV came at the right time for each other.

But I'm hard pressed to name a decent single from her over the past five years and although she's looked after herself, she reminds me a bit of an auntie at a relative's wedding who's overdone the Babycham.

Add my name to the list of folk who don't wish to see her gyrating crotch shoved into my face.

..and YES we know she can do yoga and get into some strange positions but it does NOT count as dancing! She looks like a, (literally), fish out of water!

I'm in the pro Madonna camp.
I've not fallen in love with Hard Candy as an album, I think it was perhaps the only predictable album Madonna's ever done. She's probably not been so vocal as normal promoting it due to personal difficulties and so it's appealled only to her hardcore fans. It's not dreadful, it's just not her best!
Also as i've said before, single sales mean jack all now, people download stuff -only 30/40 something parents or luddites like myself buy CDs. It's the fact she can charge £80+ for tickets and sell out that speaks volumes.
Madonna will be back and who knows with what next - personally i think she would be great doing an album of duets with people.
I think she is iconic. How many reinventions has she had?? And I'd die to ever have had a body like hers. Just because she is past fifty, should she get her granny slippers out? She looks better than 80% of twenty five year olds i bet!
Whilst the eighties stuff sounds firmly in the eighties but is still brilliant and iconic to the time, Ray of light album completely stands up today, they were playing love profusion on E4 yesterday and it still sounds great. At the time I found this album a difficult listen in places but now it all sounds brilliant - way ahead of its time.
She's someone who I've never got to see yet and i would dearly love to. Long may Madge reign as the Queen of Pop.

I'd rather leave behind my own modest legacy than the back catalogue of so-called talent and music that witch has on record.

She and her 'so called talent' will live on for decades though. Nobody will remember you fifteen years after you're dead. ;)

Oops mixed my albums up. Blame my poorliness! I love both those albums and Music, think that period of Madonna were her finest three.

I do actually like some of her more recent stuff-i.e, 4 Minutes, and was just surprised at the failing of her current single so I was just wondering if it was a blip or if her popularity was on the wane. Many artists released pretty good stuff when they seemed to be 'out of fashion' (Duran Duran,Spandau Ballet,AHA,ELO,) which didn't get anywhere chartwise.Madonna has had a lot of hits in 25 years and I expect her to be back.

Hey, Hitler will be remembered for all time, doesn't mean i'd wanna be him. :hihi:

I like some of Madonna's early stuff, she's had some great songs, but she's never had that much talent apart from her self promotion and sleeping with the right people. I just wish she had retired just before the sex book and she could have been someone who was looked back on with respect.

I really liked Miles Away, thought it would do well but hey.. Hard Candy is a pretty good album spoiled by weird cheesy bits... no-one wants to hear Madonna rapping "see my booty get down" LOL! It sounded so forced. Some of it was really good tho, the more classic madonna pop stuff.

I think she looks fab, there were some photos from her in Argentina this week and she looked amazing.. she should ditch the overly sexy stuff tho, she can look hot without trying so hard... no more leotards please! :gag:

What a stupid comparison. None of us are musical performers.

Yes, she had a big influence on music, but the music industry doesn't owe her a living.

Now now, there's no reason for rudeness, snotface. :P

It may not owe her a living, but it's given her several hundred million pounds worth of living - that's quite an incredible achievement - for anyone.

I don't like the leotard thing though, I have to agree with Pipine. :gag:

Madonna's single is the 3rd or 4th from her current album so not likely to sell very well as the album has now sold millions.

Most of her albums spawned 3 or more hits;True Blue,Like A Prayer and Ray Of Light had 5 singles off them.

Maybe Elunico is Guy Richie?

She hasn't really gone anywhere but her music is definitly a sideline now. She is mostly still about to sell copies of Now and Closer.

This is true-and of course downloads are now counted in chart positions-which means her current single did very badly.I noticed the Take That single between Shine and Rule The World (I'd Wait For Life)only spent a week in the top 40 although that was down to lack of promotion,.airplay, video etc as Gary Barlow said the group wanted timeout following their comeback which makes me wonder if they had no say over it's release.

I think a lot of the hatred towards madonna is simply because of her age.

You get to 18 and the world shouts at you "get your kit off!!!!", you hit 30 the world shouts "be sophisticatedly seductive!!!" you get past 40 and the world wants you to cover up and stay inside where no-one sees your body or hear your voice. It happened to moira stewart, it happened to nicky mcthing off 10 years younger, it'll happen to madonna.

How dare she try and dance and sing at her age, doesn't she have knitting to do?
