I believe the key will be for that CD.
So your key wont work on a different CD
not sure if OEM different.
Maybe speak to M$. Or check out there site, shouldnt have to buy it again.

Keys are not tied to CDs. He will be fine. This goes for OEM or RETAIL.

also
you might be able to get a CD key changer, for an ... OEM copy of XP, so that you can get SP1 or SP2...
not that I would condone it in any way

As reiterated from above
Keys aren't tied to CD's, so you will be fine.
Just reiterate the reiteration above, keys aren't tied to CD's, as I said some days ago when I also said I know this as I use different keys\CD's al the time.
Why do people have to reply with made up nonsense and cloud the issue?
Also, why would you need to a keygen to get SP2? More inane ramblings.

Not as inane as it sounds.
When XP corp was released several keys were leaked on the net. Microsoft disabled these keys in SP2. If you try upgrading to SP2 you will get a nice message telling you to call Microsoft.
Apparently, you can get a keygen that will search for valid keys that will allow your copy of XP to be upgraded to SP2. I think that's what he was reffering to. It's not really valid because this will most likely be a OEM copy not XP corp.
And yes... You can use one key from one CD for another CD as long as its the same type of XP. (oem, retail, corp, etc). An OEM key won't work on a retail CD for instance.
Ah, info for pirate copies then. Didn't realise we were talking about that now, didn't see the topic drift.
Are you sure about the same type of Windows and the matching keys. I've got one copy of Windows 2000 Professional and I've used it to reinstall loads of machines in the past which I'm sure haven't all been the same type of release.
