no you're not. an ex-pat is someone who is living in a country that is not the one on their passport. e.g an englishman living in hong kong or a zimbabwean living in england

you would just be classed as a graduate living in london:thumbsup:
If you want to join us and be an ex pat, you have to find a country that you might like, learn to love it, then become a citizen of it. It takes a lot of time and effort, but can be very rewarding. Not every emigrant succeeds at it.
I don't think you need to fit the dictionary definition of an expat to post in this section. I assume you enjoyed your time in the city and as far as I'm concerned you're most welcome to join us.

Hi All,
I have just joined you all on the Sheffield Forum. Iam a born and bred Sheffielder.
Born in Handsworth in 1940, went to Handsworth County school until it closed , then to Brook Secondary school until I left in 1955. Left Handswoth when I got married in 1961 and went to live in Intake. In 1971, I emigrated to Australia with my husband and 3 girls, and have lived in our home in Dapto for the last 34 years.
I guess this will make me an ex-pat. Would love to hear from anyone I knew in Sheffield.
My maiden name was Marriott.
Welcome to the Ex Pat gang, Ann. Lots of Aussies, lots of Canucks and Yanks, some Kiwis, and everywhere on earth. Sheffield spread it great share of metalurgical skills to Pittsburgh and Bethlehem PA,and Hamilton, Ontario. It almost founded Fall River MA with its history of shipbuilding. There is a Sheffield in Massachusetts, which you would miss if you blinked while going through it.

do you mean you changed your name ?, didn't you like patrick ?.
May I wish you welcome as a member of the forum. Loads of ex-Sheffielder's post on here, even "conversing" across the world about their memories of Sheffield and the surrounding areas.
Also, a Merry Xmas to all those in foreign lands (where the weather is no doubt an awful lot warmer than it is in Sheff at the moment !!!!)

Also, a Merry Xmas to all those in foreign lands (where the weather is no doubt an awful lot warmer than it is in Sheff at the moment !!!!)It's decidedly colder than Sheffield right now. We've had a massive ice storm with power lines down and lots of people wiihout heat.I hate winter in New England but the other seasons are usually nice. A merry Christmas to you too.
