View Full Version : What came first? Edwardian or Victorian? Lotti 03-06-2005, 13:04 Hi, Very quickly please! What came first Edwardian or Victorian? Lottie xx nick2 03-06-2005, 13:05 Victorian - she was Edwards mum or gran ? Fragonard 03-06-2005, 13:05 Victorian came just before Edwardian Lotti 03-06-2005, 13:06 thankyou! You people are great! Lottie x Fragonard 03-06-2005, 13:08 What have we won then ? Jon 03-06-2005, 13:09 :suspect: couldn't you have just done a search on the internet..this is basic history after all. Strix 03-06-2005, 13:11 Sheffield Forum rivals Google  Of course, Google doesn't provide you with so many 'opinions' and far too many 'facts' ;) miniminch 03-06-2005, 13:13 edwardian (http://www.channel4.com/history/microsites/C/countryhouse/edwardianlife/timeline.html) victorian (http://www.channel4.com/history/microsites/H/history/guide19/part01.html) msbehavin 03-06-2005, 13:22 You feelin' ok Minch? That was a really helpful link there... ;) StarSparkle 03-06-2005, 13:42 If it's still of use to you, Victorian relates to when Queen Victoria was on the throne (about 1838 or so - 1901), and Edwardian relates to her son Edward VII (1901-1910, I think) StarSparkle Edit: As Miniminch's link points out, the 'Edwardian Age' actually extends to 1914, to the outbreak of the First World War. Yes but it's actually quicker to ask knowledgable people here than to find the right page on google believe it or not. Now, why did you contribute? rubydazzler 03-06-2005, 15:28 Is wondering what they teach in History lessons these days .... msbehavin 03-06-2005, 15:30 Originally posted by rubydazzler Is wondering what they teach in History lessons these days .... My daughter is currently being taught Islam Religion in History. I did put a thread on here about it but it got deleted for reasons known only to the Powers Above. mr.blaze 03-06-2005, 16:09 Originally posted by msbehavin My daughter is doing Islam Religion. If kids want to learn stuff, let 'em go to the library and, assuming the books haven't all been replaced by video games and DVDs, read up on things in their own time. Learning should be as much for pleasure as for jumping through hoops. My friend who wanted to know is stuck in her gran's house away from society so only phoned me to see if I knew. I'm stuck in the house and couldn't get to the library, especially as it's not even my homework As for history lessons, I quit it as soon as possible and we were never taught that, we learnt about a load of crap that meant nothing to anybody. About terracotta statues... I can also read, and I'm sorry I didn't know, I only wanted a quick and easy answer, thankyou to the few of you who were helpful. Lottie rubydazzler 03-06-2005, 19:09 don't get on your high horse lotti ... I don't think Joe was having a go at you anyway ... he seemed to be replying to my question of what are they teaching students in History these days .. It just seemed strange to me that someone wouldn't know that sort of fact. But then I'm constantly amazed when people say they've never heard of things that I assume to be common knowledge ... autre temps autre mores ... people learn different things I suppose. Anyway you both know now :D Lotti 03-06-2005, 19:17 Thanks, did it sound like I was getting on my high horse? I'm a little tense today so it probably showed in my writing, sorry. (actually I'm probably very tense - times are bad...) I have to confess sometimes, people amaze me, but that's not something I would have known as common knowledge it's something you'd have to learn. It wasn't particularly for history it's cos she's doing English and was doing an essay on Sherlock Holmes. She wanted to include the historical context... Now, why did you contribute? like everyone else to get a post to my name ;) but come on this is very basic history next you will be asking what happened in 1066 now thats an eye opener trust me ;) matsalleh 04-06-2005, 07:44 This may be of interest, before the days of forums and google:- http://icbirmingham.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/mail/tm_objectid=14916402&method=full&siteid=50002&headline=victorian-school-tests-spark-new-storm-name_page.html Lotti 04-06-2005, 08:32 Thankyou Jon, I don't want to be told how basic it is. I missed most of my years at school due to illness and being in hospital so I do apologise. It's not something I've ever had to know, I didn't even have to know now, it was for a friend. And I know what happened in 1066. Now, I've got a lot on and I feel so thick as it is with having trouble with my A levels that I'd rather you didn't tell me how basic it is. Oh, and you didn't actually answer the question, are you sure you knew? ;) Lottie Jon 04-06-2005, 10:08 Sorry Lotti I really hope you get top marks in your A levels  my fingers are crossed for you. The answer was already been given to you so i didn't feel it needed to be repeated and i'm sticking with that ;) Lotti 04-06-2005, 10:13 Thanks, they're really weighing down on me! :( I'll do my best  Lottie |
