Anyone know whats burning down near the airport?

Theres a VERY large plume of thick black smoke rising over that way, as seen from Darnall. It shows no sign of thinning out, and whatever is burning must be going well!!

(Some pics to follow as soon as my camera charges back up!)

*goes to look out of window*

Nope - there's a tree in the way up here. Visibility is a bit lower in that direction than out towards Ulley though

I notice a lot of smoke as I was driving down the dual carriage way into Gleadless, and thinking about it, it will have been coming from that direction... It was covering a large area so is obviously a big fire.
(Sorry for an unhelpful post!)

I live in Handsworth and nipped down to Darnall at Lunchtime. I was on my way back when i spotted it and thought it was on my estate but it looked to be the other side nr the parkway.

Wonder what is was? It was mighty big!

There are too few houses out there. So there are too few people to reply :(

Let's hope the fire engine turned up without a load of giggling women showing their arses hanging off it...

I spoke to someone who flew over it. He said it looked like a large piece of wasteland with a large vehicle (the size of a bus?) on fire. The fire engines were there, but they were just letting it burn out as it wasn't likely to spread anywhere.

I was at Meadowhall earlier and saw tons of smoke going up... As I drove home through Darnall, I could still see it and thought it'd be around the Handsworth area... Still no mention of it on the news/Hallam fm... It's big enough to be mentioned, surely!

At 13.25hrs, I saw two fire engines leaving the city centre with warning sounds blaring. Both heading towards Parkway.
