I've had no end of problems with the hotel. I get married next week. We had a wedding planner who promised discounts etcs only to find out that she lied. we managed to get that sorted we were given a new wedding planner and told the other one had been demoted because she had told lots of people discounts they couldnt have ( the hotel even lied to us about this as she is still working as a wedding planner there). Then today we've been told that there is a christmas party going on in the hotel th same night till one which means that our guest will have to mingle with them and we cant use the bar. After we were originally told that they only take one booking and we had acsess to all of the hotel. When we asked them why we have been told that ours would be the only booking they said the wedding planner was just training when she took our booking and that she got it wrong.
I really feel that i want to cancel but i wouldn't get my money back and i dont think there is any other hotels that could sort it out at such sort notice. i'm so upset just wish i had never booked it. has anyone any ideas. please help

what does your contract say?

the credit crunch hits hotels hard - If you can find another venue, either jump ship and sue the rear off them, or use it as leverage to get them to sort this mess out

Is this a large chain?

do you have insurance?

How big is your party?

I suppose booking a wedding in Christmas party season is going to make things difficult for rearranging at short notice, but it's worth a shot!
(I'd be surprised if there weren't cancellations you could take up - thanks to the credit crunch)

sorry to hear about your problem, well if it was me i would check the contract and look for what they said they were going to provide and if it was in my favour i would go and see the manager today and ask what they were going to do about it.if i didnt get a good response i would be looking for somewhere else and seek legal advice on getting my money back and more.i am sure you will be able to find somewhere else even at this time as the credit crunch is hitting hard.there is no way i would share my wedding day with a drunken works party.hope you get it sorted and you have a great day.and dont forget its who you are with and not where you are that matters

Hi, im sorry to hear about this. Have you tried maybe going to somewhere other than a hotel? i know Crucible do wedding parties or so they used to. Also what about hiring a room and then getting your own DJ etc?

It sounds like they have broken the terms of their contract, what dreadful customer service!

I'd be looking elsewhere! Shop around a few hotels or upper market pubs with function rooms. If I can help with the entertainment if you move venues, please let me know. I can often reshuffle jobs around and have a team of DJs to call upon who can respond usually at short notice.

So sorry to hear that.

Please give us a call and we may be able to offer you an alternative venue.

Although we have Christmas parties too, we may be able to give you one half of our building exclusive for your guests.

If not - good luck in finding alternative arrangements

Thanks everyone your all so kind. I'll let you know how things go xx
I have spoken to a couple of people who i know are getting married at the hotel i've used. and warned them. They were all told the same thing that they wont take any other bookings and also some of them have been offered the same discounts we were offered. I've given the brides a heads up to check and get it in writing. I really don't want them to have the same problems as me. My advice to brides is to get everything in writing.
The hotel have offered us another room for the guest to use so the older ones can sit out of the music. They are trying their best. Still feel really let down by them. But at least they are trying.
Unfortunatly we have spent all of our savings plus a bit more and the inheritance that i got when my grandpa died on the wedding so we really haven't got any money to cancel and go elsewhere and we don't want to start getting in debt.
The main thing is that my o.h and i are going to be getting married something we both wanted for years and that i'm going to have my friends around with me.

hello,
foliages are the best quality and colour this time of year, chop down from friends and neighbours gardens ivy, blue spruce and holly. place on window sills and fireplaces with big glass hurricane lamps with candles. Big bunch of mistletoe over the doorway.... beautiful. Top foliage tip put all foliages in your bath with cold water a drop of bleach and a drop of washing up liquid foliage comes up shiny and snail free.Natural materials in my opinion always look beautiful and never date they can decorate a room tastefully quickly and fill with a lovely evocotive xmas scent x Have a wonderful wedding day!!!!!

does it actually NEED decorating?

what Christmas decorations do the hotel already have up?

When we got married, the florist was trying to sell us on the idea of flowers all over the place - including down a stairway :loopy: this was in a hotel with more Victorian Spa Hotel character than you could shake a stick at!

Can you give us an idea of which hotel it is? If you don't want to name them for whatever reason, how about a "sounds like" or failing that the area or part postcode.

I would love to know which hotel this is too. We are in the process of choosing a wedding venue and we don't have money to waste.
