I have a Renault Laguna 2.2 Diesel ( in France ) 1998 with 330K Kilometers on it. It goes fine, the interior is falling to bits but I only use it for the odd trip locally. It cost me nowt and it seems to have plenty of life in it.

I don't think you can predict how long it will go on for either- how long it goes on for may not be limited directly by the engine either.

Scenics do suffer quite badly with rust, which could make it fail the MOT and be financially non-viable to repair. Two out of the 3 of my Megane/Scenic cars have also had brake and suspension issues by the time they were 3 years old, and so if you add a few more years on to their age you could see that they would have hundreds of pounds' worth of bills just to sort out the suspension and/or brakes.

It's all down to the individual car, as well as how carefully it has been driven and how carefully it has been maintained- to be sure about whether it's worth buying you'll need someone who knows what they're doing to have a look at it.
