Not sure if they're still around, but way back when I was in your lad's position, I did 2 weeks at Krisalis Software in Rotherham, based at Teque House on Moorgate.

One of the best "jobs" I ever had that, spent 2 weeks thrashing game developers at their own games, including Jonah Barrington's Squash, and Man Utd Europe.

...or if you can't get him in anywhere try Rother Valley Country Park, which is the place my sons doing 10 days, to crow-bar him away from his EggBox. lol.
