Yesterday we received our phone bill, nothing major because I take advantage of cable to cable after 6.00pm (only 5p connection charge and the call is free.)
As usual the envelope was full of leaflets for various offers which I put to one side for the paper bin. Later on Hubby wanted some scrap paper and picked up one the discarded leaflets, it was actually a leaflet telling you about their price increases.
From 1st July the after 6.00pm fee is going to be charged at 2p per min plus various other increases.
If it hadn't have been for the fact we needed some scrap paper we would have chucked it in the bin and wouldn't have known about the increases until the next (huge) bill arrived. I know we should have checked but the point is many peole like us just open the mail chuck away the c**p inside.
So if your telewest phone bill is due, please check the leaflets otherwise you could be in for a shock later on.
We are now looking at other phone companies because if we are going to be charged after 6.00pm it is just not worth staying with Telewest.
We had a similar problem with NPower.
We have never been a customer of theirs, and we started getting junk from them. At the rate of 1 a week, I started putting the unopened envelope through the shredder.
Then we got a letter looking far more serious from them. I opened it to find they were threatening court action. They had bought out Yorkshire Electricity and were attepting to 'recover' unpaid debts.
We had cancelled our contract with YE nearly 12 months before, and although they had collected the DD for the electricity, they hadn't collected the gas one before they cancelled the DD.
I was livid that NPower had been sending me bills which looked identical to the other crap they send out - and I was at risk of winding up with a black mark on my credit rating over it.
After a blazing row with them, they agreed to settle for only half of the money :D

I work for Telewest and thats news to me. There are certainly some increases (aswell as decreases), but I havent heard about this one. As far as I am aware, the tariff for the basic telephone line lets you call local cable-cable customers at a charge of 6p connection, and nothing else.
I've just got off the phone with telewest (again):(.
Signed up for the e-billing, accessed the site fine:).
Only to be greeted with a bill that was paid over a week ago!.
Twenty minutes later, I've got them to cancel my e-billing account as the system just doesn't work!
Am seriously contemplating moving from them, as this is not an isolated incident!

Bills are never that much. If I want to chat to someone I'll give them a quick call to see that they are in, then drive round.
Never had a problem with Telewest, Got the Internet, TV and phone from them (before the £30 deal) and if the bill is even close to £50 for the lot I start to look into it.
