View Full Version : Cutting hair to make long.. *Ryan* 03-06-2005, 08:12 ok i need help.. im growing my hair.. but ive been told i need to cut it everynow and then.. but wouldnt this defeat the object of growing it? im confused Strix 03-06-2005, 08:29 No. It needs cutting about every 6 weeks to prevent split ends. Split ends prevent it from growing ;) igm1 03-06-2005, 08:32 Yeah I agree with what Strix said, it's what I did. And it takes a while lol, make look a bit crap along the way until it grows to a certain length Lea1979 03-06-2005, 08:34 don't know how long it is now but if you can makes sure you give it a good brush every day - i've been told that helps too :) *Ryan* 03-06-2005, 08:37 nice1.. so its not actually a case they cut it, jus that they take the ends of we them special scissors?.. haha Strix 03-06-2005, 08:39 Don't let them do that fashionable 'cutting into it' thing - where they cut upwards in the direction of the hair instead of a cross at 90 degrees. It knackers it's condition. CathS 03-06-2005, 08:41 Someone once told me to put your head upside down for a minute or so once a day as it sends blood to the head and stimulates growth, not sure how true it is? *Ryan* 03-06-2005, 08:45 its worth a try.. Strix 03-06-2005, 08:48 Originally posted by Lee1979 don't know how long it is now but if you can makes sure you give it a good brush every day - i've been told that helps too :) Brushing causes breakage and split ends unless done carefully. Tugging near the roots is supposed to help strengthen it though scottf 03-06-2005, 08:51 how do split ends hinder groth? Strix 03-06-2005, 08:53 They split from the end towards the root - usually faster than the hair can grow ;) Once they've split, they are dry and brittle and break off easily scottf 03-06-2005, 08:58 wow, thats for that interesting fact, i have stored it in the 'pub quiz' section of my head :D Strix 03-06-2005, 09:01  Glad I don't go to your pub quizzes :P igm1 03-06-2005, 09:35 Originally posted by scottf wow, thats for that interesting fact, i have stored it in the 'pub quiz' section of my head :D You'll forget it after a few pints of beer scottf 03-06-2005, 09:45 Originally posted by IanMitchell You'll forget it after a few pints of beer forget what? (sorry- had to be done ;) ) AaronD 03-06-2005, 10:39 It all depends on your definition of long but probably cut it every 8 weeks and make sure it's just a trim. I cut it about that often and i went from short hair to all the way down my back in about a year and a half / 2 years. The first 7 months or so is the worse as it get's in your eyes when it's windy and you can't tie it back. *Ryan* 03-06-2005, 11:24 so ur basically saying i wouldnt be needing to go to hairdressers as much as usual jus grow it as long as poss, then trim?? AaronD 03-06-2005, 12:47 personally yeah, grow it until it looks a little fraid then get a trim. I don't think you'll need to worry too much about split ends until it's long enough to tie back anyway. Strix 03-06-2005, 12:48 Then it'll be too late ;) jayjay 03-06-2005, 12:55 Let me dig deep to way back when I was an hairdresser hair grows in 3 stages Anagen-growing stage Catagen-resting stage Telogen-falling out stage Each hair is at one stage ,not all at same stage though or we would all go bald at least once a year.:D If your hair is in good condition use your judgement on whether you think you need a trim. If its not get the ends trimmed every 8wks or so . Depending on what stage of growth your hair is at ,will vary the ammount of time between trims. Its best to get rid of split ends and those white nodules you get in your hair(hair breaks if pulled) as if they split up the hair it tends to be further the it would have been if you had had a trim. Angel05 03-06-2005, 13:01 Originally posted by ryan123 ok i need help.. im growing my hair.. but ive been told i need to cut it everynow and then.. but wouldnt this defeat the object of growing it? im confused May i also make a small suggestion of taking Kelp tablets on a daily basis... (sold in health shops) I had a friend who once used these... made her hair very noticably thicker along with the length appearing longer too... Worth a try i'd say... :D *Ryan* 03-06-2005, 13:45 hhmm tablets? aahh.. i jus guess ive got a waiting game on my hands.. :( |
