View Full Version : Myximatosis and the goverment response.. teeny 05-12-2008, 17:13 A while back i signed a petition re myxi and rabbits heres the goverment response to it Please feel free to read it.:( http://www.number10.gov.uk/Page17716 GrinderBloke 05-12-2008, 17:32 Just keep vaccinating our domestic rabbits to protect them best we can against this disease. teeny 05-12-2008, 17:35 Thats all we can do , My concern is that the goverment think that Myxi mutates if thats so why doe the vaccine stay the same , its not changed in years so how can it be effective? SpeedDemon 05-12-2008, 21:21 which is why i never vaccinated my rabbits. And never got myxi in my rabbitry. There are many arguments for and against. teeny 05-12-2008, 22:28 which is why i never vaccinated my rabbits. And never got myxi in my rabbitry. There are many arguments for and against. I have a friend who board rabbits down south , she didn't insist on vaccinations and she got Myxi , over 30 rabbits who hadn't been vaccinated died needlessly. !!! I vaccinated all mine myself and have never had Myxi. I do realise there are fors and against vaccination but over the years my opiions have changed epecially since working with several vet schools. Did you know there were 4 rabbits who died from Myxi on bradway road and another 6 from Hemper lane earlier this year ? SpeedDemon 05-12-2008, 23:05 nope, but i dont have bunnies anymore anyway. Believe me, i did a lot of research before i decided not to vaccinate as I was breeding quality show stock, but never got myxi once in 4 years. (and i had a LOT of rabbits - i think the highest count was 42!) It is suspected that my neighbours rabbits recently died of myxi but different situation, bearing in mind hers lived in the garden, mine were all inside the rabbitry and never mixed with other rabbits or met foxes etc. Rabbits who ARE vaccinated can still get myxi - albeit usually, but not always, in a milder form, and not necessarily fatal, but still makes them very ill. teeny 06-12-2008, 15:24 nope, but i dont have bunnies anymore anyway. Nodular Myxi is whats its called and yes they can die from secondary infections but at the end of the day its down to choice, I choose to inject mine even though mine live indoors but they do have runs outside, so in my case prevension is better than cure lol. jennyhenny 06-12-2008, 16:46 I am glad mine were done as there are so many rabbits nearby , mine would get myxi if they had it. Teeeny was kind enough to get mine vaccinated for me |
