View Full Version : Tell me about Heeley!
lobster_8 02-06-2005, 17:39 As 1st time buyers we are finding we can't afford the more plush areas of Sheffield and have seen an affordable house in Heeley. However we have heard that parts of S2 have a bit of a bad press. What is the area around Spur street, Slate street and Delf street like? Will our car get robbed etc?

Theres others kicking about , type in heeley at the top of the Box you type when youve clicked new thread
Just because it's in S2 doesn't mean it's rough! Household insurance is a lot less in S2 than in S10 or S11, and it's an incredibly convenient and pleasant place to live. It's a nice family area and quiet and friendly, and houses seem to be in much demand (I bought mine the day it went up for sale). Your car's no more likely to get nicked here than anywhere else in the city, but don't get hung up on being able to park near your house as parking can be a big problem round those streets; and on match days it's literally impossible - in which case, shrug your shoulders and just don't take your car out if there's a match happening, or else buy a house right up the hill as none of the fans seem to like walking that far up . :)
I live in Heeley, and I love it.
It's very handy for town, you can walk to the bottom the Moor in about 20 minutes. It's quiet and there are plenty of trees and green areas.
House prices are going up realy quickly though, so don't leave it too long.
I have friends who live on Slate Street, so I go down there quite a bit. I've never noticed it being rough - it's quiet and the people seem nice.
It's good being so close to town, but it's let down a bit by it's lack of parks/green spaces and local shops.
Have you looked a bit further up the hill in Meersbrook? The house prices are comparable and I think that you get much more for your money.
KATIEB_23 03-06-2005, 11:50 Hi I live on Spurr Street and it's lovely!
Check this thread a little while ago...

The lack of shops is a bit of a pain, but it's not a huge problem, untill you run out of milk at 10pm :)
Pauline BHG 03-06-2005, 12:04 I live on Slate Street - been there a year and its fantastic. Seems to be a few familes there, some OAPS and a few students. No hassle, no noise, no trouble in the year ive been there. I love it and hope to stay there longterm :)
(Im not easily pleased btw - this is high praise !!)
And there is the city farm, which is nice if you have kids, they love that kind of thing, ducks, chickens, pigs, sheep, horses etc.
They also do very good hanging baskets and sell cheap plants. The coffee shop is ok too.
Yeah, Heely City Farm is great. Those mini lambs are the cutest things I've ever seen! It has good recycling facilities too.
And build your own powerstation!!!!!
Okay, it's a water heater

Sorry to hear that. Hope you try again xx.
There are always at least a couple of terrace houses for sale in Heeley so another will come along soon.
