No surprise there. His transfers have been nothing short of awful, he can't handle players, his tactics are sometimes bizarre, and he's clearly struggled to cope with the job.

The Premier League has just waved goodbye to Roy Keane for a second time. Though this time I feel it will be for good.

What a suprise, roy keane is a quitter- simple as that, same as keegan.

He had all them years winning everything at man u and as soon as the team he is with start to loose (any remember the republic of ireland in the world cup) and the heat comes on him he wilts and quits.

i bet he will be in charge of blackburn within the month!!! *runs off to place a bet*

does anyone really care?after keane left forest i personally lost all respect for the man,he became a thug,in both his life on and off the pitch, with alex ferguson being his chief apologist, causing disruption even at the world cup,so prepare for keane,s bleatings in the not too distant future if he has resigned.

May want to add Paul Ince to that soon...though I think he should be given chance to see in the transfer window in January and take it from there.
Saying that, the squad he inherited is not far from what Mark Hughes left (minus Brad Freidel and David Bentley) and they were then finishing in top 10.

From Where Sunderland were when he took over i think Keane has done a great job at Sunderland,i just think they have suffered from 2nd season syndrome where prem teams know how they play and how to beat them
Personally i would have sacked him just because of the beard;)

I've hated Keane ever since his big bust up with manager McCarthy where he called him a "f*cking English c**t" who had no right working for the Irish squad, and got sent home from the World Cup.

But which home did Keane go to? Back to his beloved Ireland? No, he scuttled back to Cheshire, England.

Sunderland - another club punching way above its weight in the Premier League. They may have the ground and support but they do not have a divine right to be in PL.

I have no time for Roy Keane but wasn't it him who got Sunderland promoted?

Infact, I hope this knee-jerk decision to either sack him or put pressure on him to resign comes back to haunt them.

Obviously, the Mackems are learning from their neighbours up at St James' Park because they're turning just as deluded.

£70 million he spent there. £70 million! I'd say he has about four players good enough for the Premiership.

Like people say the blokes a quitter ,like his ex team mate Steve Bruce. I personally think the players he bought and the money spent on them was preposterous. Can see him appearing on tv as a pundit soon, its an easier job.

He did well in the Championship and got them moving in the right direction. However i question many of his signings or shall i say question the amount of money he spent on many of them. Overpaid for many of them and has spent more than most managers.

Overrated!

I disagree. Keane's spending power has been close to Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea over the last two seasons. In my opinion he's bought badly.

The cash-happy approach worked well in the Championship, but Sunderland have looked increasingly lost of late...

Price he paid for Gordon was just insane.

Clearly this person has been sitting in the Sunderland boardroom and knows the inside workings of the club....

Punching above our weight in the premier league?! What's wrong with a club having a bit of ambition? And doesn't every supporter of every club think they should be doing better than they are? Who deserves it more, Wednesday, United, Wolves... no team has a divine right to be in the top league. Fulham, Blackburn, Wigan, are there because they're good enough. So no more of this "punching above our weight". We're there because we had a bit of ambition and got promoted, ie. on merit. And might not be there next season, but anyway...

Keane was backed all the way by the Sunderland board, I doubt if there was any pressure on him to resign or be sacked. Apparently this new American guy on the board did question that he'd spent 70 million on a team that couldn't defend. Anyone else think this is a fair point? We'll never know why Keane walked, maybe it was because someone in the board had the "cheek" to question him, maybe it was because the supporters had the cheek to complain about a 5 run losing streak and paying to see another poor performance. Supporters are fickle regardless of the club they watch.

My view is he decided he didn't need the grief anymore and he's bottled it. He should have got stuck in and tried to turn it round. It smacks of arrogance that he's walked.

Rant over.

From The Times:

Souness and Robson were truly majestic footballers, eye-watering specimens of masculinity, yet now the majority perceive them as clowns because of their managerial travails.

Keane will now be similarly derided. Three years ago he was seen as one of the most influential and brutally intelligent footballers to ever roam the green; now he is the man who paid £5m for Michael Chopra, and quit because he couldn't hack it.

I never said that he bought well,i said that from where Sunderland were when he took over he has done a bloody good job for them considering where they were
And yes i agree he bought badly, the money paid for Collins and Chopra was ridiculous, but in his first season as a manager he got a team promoted to the prem when they were in the relegation zone of championship when he took over and if sunderland do stay up and keep raking in the millions it will have a lot to do with Keane
