View Full Version : Sign petition for Status Quo to star on Live 8
Come on all you Quo fans,
outraged that Bob Geldof and co organisers have not put this longest running rock band in Britain
on the star studded list of those taking part in the eight hour extravaganza at Londons Hyde Park on July 2nd.
sign the petition on www.mirror.co.uk
or send clip in todays daily mirror page 19.

WAY WILL I SIGN THAT
Greenback 02-06-2005, 12:32 This is both predictable and tiresome. 'Ver Quo' were (are) rubbish.
It's just another example – and a rather tedious and obvious one at that – of the postmodern fetishising of TV shows, movies, bands and art that were essentially rubbish the first time round.
Next...
I'd sign my own death warant first I'm afraid.
LordSnooty 02-06-2005, 20:56 I agree. Status Quo are rubbish. I once visited a 'rock and roll memorabilia' shop in, oh god, where was it? Somewhere in Suffolk........it'll come to me..........yes - Woodbridge. Among the unappealing tat and bric-a-brac was a Fender Telecaster signed by Rick Whoeveritis, or maybe it was the other one. The sad thing was, the guitar was only £250, which is substantially below what it would have cost unsigned from a guitar shop! A rare case of a 'celeb' signature lowering the value of an object...
Phanerothyme 02-06-2005, 21:22 I'm an unreconstructed Quo fan. They **** all over bands with twice their 'credibility'. At their age they've earned the right to release as many duff records as they like :D
Mostly like the stuff before 12 bar blues rock - genuine british psychedelic pop - got rave reviews from none other than George Melly.

I suspect the guitar in question was not a genuine Made In USA Fender, but one of the S.E.Asian or Mexican made cheaper Fenders, in which case £250 is about right.
A USA made Tele retails at £750 - £1200 depending on specs, so no one their right mind would pass one up for £250. It's easy enough to remove the signature, after all.
I'm not much of a Quo fan, but I think it's sad to rubbish them unnecessarily like this. Love them or hate them, they have their own little niche in British rock history, after all

LordSnooty 03-06-2005, 20:12 Yes, he did - he wasn't being rubbish then. He is now, though.
he wasn't being rubbish then
Yes he was.
LordSnooty 03-06-2005, 20:29 Oh no he wasn't!
He's behind you!
(I signed the petition. Well, someone had to).
LordSnooty 03-06-2005, 20:50 Ant - first you talk to tramps, then you sign the Quo petition - are you after a sainthood? You certainly deserve one!
Snooty
No, I'm just turning into an eccentric old git.
Erm i did say all you Quo fans .
rainbow2411 03-06-2005, 23:05 So that'll be 2 of you then. I'm sure that will make Sir Bob sit up and take notice
Hardly, theres masses of people signed .
now the organisers may be giving them a slot in the first hour so they can fly across to Ireland to keep their tour date in Killarney. :P

Make that 3
Gingerbarf 05-06-2005, 00:16 if it's "rocking all over the world" you can make that 4
I'm up for any Quo magic!!!
Shouldn't Quo stick to playing holiday camps? Somebody'll be wanting Phil Collins on the bill next.............
Personally think BG would be rather better off going for bands relevant to 2005, not 1985 (and Quo were 10 years past their best then) unless Live 8 is only meant to appeal to the over 40's.
if its an age thing youre talking about , How old is Bono.?
And Sir Elton and sir paul.
misconception that Quo only appeals to over 40s I know loads of teenagers who like them too.
to be honest, status quo remind me of an old pentioners day outing. they surface every so often with there botox injected faces and turn out the same old crap. we recently saw them on tv and they were even singing beach boy records, rock on quo!
(Status Quo also remind my daughet of the band in Spinal Tap.)
But Spinal Tap was better...

just a point to tara on the status quo subject, the differance between quo and the likes of the above mentioned is that over the years there music in generall has moved along wth the times to a certain extent. if u take u2 as an example then theres no comparison really in the standard of music. granted bands like the stones and the who tour without really releasing any recent material but where talking massive world bands here. if people like status quo "which i remember being a really good heavy rock band in the 70s" then thats fair enough but any band doing covers of the beach boys has in my opinion had there day.:|
Zinger549 05-06-2005, 12:29 Status Quo ROCK and thats all there is to say on the matter
Rock as in Rocking chair ??:heyhey: :heyhey: :heyhey:
Zinger549 05-06-2005, 12:35 ha ha so funny brooksy NOT: live 8 Will not be the same without The Quo
You jest surley zinger, in your opinion what in the current music climate could three courd quo possibly bring to thisconcert.Even if you really like them you must admit with all the good bands around they havnt got a chance. You obviously didnt see the making of the band aid record, they were that bad vocally they didnt even make the single. Do you actually like rock music?, try listening to zepplin. deep purple , sabbath, or the other thousand or so rock bands who clearly play the music they are supposed to. If you want covers of the beach boys then listen to quo, good luck :suspect: :suspect:
sheffgurl 05-06-2005, 14:14 status quo are terrible, stop buying their records and maybe they will go away :D they've only ever had one hit yet continue to tour to crowds of 50 at butlins :gag:

55 top 20 hits I believe
31 albums in the album chart
Seven and a half years in the singles chart.
I've looked up their "greatest hits" on the www and can only remember about 13 of the 20 odd songs (how many of those 55 songs stayed one week at number 20 after the fan club had bought a copy each) - apart from "Pictures of Matchstickmen" I'd guess most were between 1973 and 1977.
And about 10 of those were the usual two chord riff.
Anybody who can include a cover of the "Anniversary Waltz" on their greatest hits package has got to be seriously sad - that song was embarrasingly dated in the 60's!!
Status Quo never rocked...............more sort of shuffled.
Zinger549 11-06-2005, 14:55 ur so not funny!!!!! status quo have millions of fans and if they do play at live 8 it will be good
