We have a 1 and 1/2 year old female long haired guinea pig and we would like to bond her with another female. How easy would this be to do? We fear that she may be getting lonely living on her own so would like to sort some company out for her. Are guinea pigs easy to bond? Any tips or suggestions about how best to do this?

Many thanks

Hi History man

generally speaking its pretty easy to do, I have done many in the past.

Few tips

Bath both in smelly shampoo, introduce on neutral ground and on fresh bedding. Put plenty of veg and hay around them and leave them to it. There will be some rumbling and some humping possibly, but should soon settle once dominance is sorted.

If you need any further help, please let me know

I've bonded a few pairs now for our boarders as well as our own piggies and it is a lot less stressful than bonding rabbits.
As peaches said, give them a bath, neutral territory and lenty of veg and leave them to it and keep an eye on them.
We've only had one difficult pair to bond and that was solved by putting one of them in a carrier and leaving the other one loose, then swapping them over. A car ride also works well as they will snuggle up together
